Instrument Mechanics - Temp Position in Sasolburg Join a prestigious petrochemical site as an Instrument Mechanic. Installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of instrumentation and control systems. Safety-focused role with calibration and documentation responsibilities.

Instrument Mechanic at Sasol Site Position Overview The Instrument Mechanic will be responsible for the installation, commissioning, calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of instrumentation and control systems at a leading petrochemical site in Sasolburg. Key Responsibilities

  • Safety & Compliance: Ensure work adheres to site safety standards and hazardous area regulations. Report deviations and maintain a safe work environment.
  • Installation & Commissioning: Install and commission field instrumentation, conduct functional testing, and verify signal transmission to DCS systems.
  • Calibration: Independently calibrate instruments, adjust accuracy, and maintain calibration records.
  • Maintenance: Perform preventive and corrective maintenance, diagnose faults, and assist in planned maintenance activities.
  • Troubleshooting & Fault Finding: Analyse and resolve instrument and control system faults, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Communicate progress, report defects, maintain records, and complete required documentation accurately.
  • Standby Duties: Participate in standby duties, respond to breakdowns, and provide technical support to ensure operational continuity.
Minimum Requirements
  • Relevant Qualifications: Instrumentation Trade Qualification or Mechanic Trade Certificate with practical experience in petrochemical, industrial environments.
  • Experience: Working with field instrumentation, calibration, loop checking, and fault finding. Knowledge of DCS systems and hazardous area requirements.
  • Skills: Installation, calibration, testing, troubleshooting, maintenance, safety awareness, problem-solving, and accurate documentation.
Working Conditions The role entails working on an industrial/petrochemical site, potentially at heights, with standby duties and emergency response requirements. Strong safety awareness and ability to work both independently and as part of a team are essential.
