Our client, an established steel manufacturing company based in Amanzimtoti, Kwa Zulu-Natal, is looking for a skilled Welder to join its new plant maintenance team. The successful candidate will carry out high-quality welding repairs and fabrication work that supports safe, continuous production.
Key Responsibilities- Carry out maintenance, repair and fabrication welding on plant equipment and structures.
- Weld carbon steel, stainless steel and wear-resistant materials to required standards.
- Use a range of welding processes, including SMAW (arc), GMAW (MIG/MAG), FCAW and GTAW (TIG).
- Perform hard-facing and build-up welding on worn components.
- Prepare joints by cutting, grinding and bevelling before welding.
- Read and interpret drawings, welding symbols and welding procedure specifications (WPS).
- Inspect completed welds visually and correct defects.
- Set up, maintain and look after welding equipment and consumables.
- Follow hot work permits, fire prevention and PPE procedures at all times.
- Complete job cards and maintenance records accurately.
- Support boilermakers and fitters during shutdowns and major repairs.
- Be available for shift work, standby and emergency call-outs.
- Trade Tested Welder or relevant welding qualification.
- Coded welding certification (e.g. ASME IX, ISO 9606 or SANS) is highly advantageous.
- Minimum 3 years' welding experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Experience in steel, foundry, heavy engineering or a similar heavy industrial environment is strongly preferred.
- Competence across multiple welding processes and positions.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings and welding symbols.
- Good understanding of the OHS Act and hot work safety practices.
- Willingness to work shifts, overtime, standby and weekends.
- Clear criminal record and ability to pass a medical assessment.
