About the Role
Our client is seeking a diligent Substation Technician to join their team in Vereeniging . This role is essential for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and repair of electrical substations, ensuring reliable power distribution throughout the region. You will perform routine inspections, diagnostic testing, and preventive maintenance on critical substation equipment, including transformers, switch gear, and control systems. This is a hands‑on position for a technically skilled individual passionate about the energy infrastructure and committed to maintaining high standards of safety and performance in the Gauteng province.
Key Responsibilities- Perform routine inspections, testing, and maintenance of substation equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers, and relays.
- Diagnose and repair electrical faults and equipment failures within the substation environment.
- Assist in the installation and commissioning of new substation equipment and control systems.
- Adhere strictly to all safety procedures, lockout/tagout protocols, and environmental regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, test results, and equipment status.
- Respond to emergency situations and power outages as required to restore service efficiently.
- Relevant technical qualification or certification in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience working with electrical substations or high-voltage equipment.
- Strong understanding of power distribution systems , protection schemes, and test equipment.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
- Ability to work at heights and in potentially hazardous environments.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to participate in an on‑call rotation schedule.
