Field Service & Installations Lead – Electrical Automation & IoT

This is a hands-on role: about 60% of your time will be on the tools . As our Field Service & Installations Lead , reporting directly to the founders, you will lead a small team of technicians who install and service our electrical automation and IoT systems, and personally handle remote support and smaller service calls yourself . The other 40% is leading the team: scheduling, quotes, materials and customers.

This role is about ownership . What we install is yours: installed right, commissioned right and supported properly afterwards.
There is a clear growth path: as the business grows and the team expands, the role becomes less hands-on and grows into Field Service & Installations Manager .

• Handle remote support calls yourself: diagnose and fix systems by phone, video and remote access.
• Attend smaller service calls and maintenance yourself: fault-finding, repairs and health checks.
• Commission systems: controller setup, configuration and connectivity, proving they work as designed.
• Work alongside the technicians on installations, and step in on complex faults.
• QC installations against the drawings and our standards, and feed failures back to the workshop.

• Lead the technicians and installation subcontractors: allocate the work, set the workmanship standard and hold everyone accountable for quality, conduct and safety, escalating issues to the founders early.
• Own FAT, packing and dispatch: test the full system before it leaves the workshop and get it to site on time, with cross-border paperwork handled through the admin team.
• Work closely with Production so equipment is built, tested and ready before each installation, and materials are on site on time.
• Prepare project and service quotes, and be the customer’s contact through sign-off and handover.
• Own health and safety on site and on the road: risk assessments, site safety files where required, PPE and incident reporting.
• Manage the team’s tools, vehicle kits and field spares, and control job costs, travel and overtime.
• Keep job cards and service records up to date, and report weekly.

Our customers are agricultural operations across sub-Saharan Africa , and we are expanding globally. Expect farms and rural sites far from town, regular travel, and overnight trips up to about once a month .

Ideally, you are a qualified electrician, millwright or electrical engineer (or equivalent trade experience) who has been installing, commissioning or servicing automation systems and is comfortable with both a panel and a network.

• Experience installing, commissioning or servicing automation systems from electrical drawings.
• A solid understanding of controllers or PLCs, sensors, communication protocols, networking and IoT.
• Strong fault-finding skills across electrical, automation and connectivity problems, on site and remotely.
• Experience leading or supervising technicians, confident with customers and quotes, and computer literate.
• Willing to have difficult conversations and hold people to a standard.
• A valid driver's licence, and happy to travel to rural and cross-border sites.
