Mobile Plant Mechanic

A major player in the mining and construction sector is seeking an experienced Mobile Plant Mechanic to maintain their fleet of heavy-duty vehicles and equipment in the Nelspruit area and surrounding operations in Mpumalanga . This role is crucial for ensuring the operational readiness and safety of excavators, loaders, trucks, and other specialized machinery. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in diagnosing and repairing complex mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems specific to heavy mobile plant.

You will be expected to perform both scheduled maintenance and emergency repairs, often in challenging site conditions. Our client operates a large, modern fleet and invests in its maintenance teams.

• Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and diagnostics on heavy mobile plant equipment.
• Repair and rebuild complex mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems on various types of plant machinery.
• Troubleshoot and identify causes of mechanical failures and implement effective solutions.
• Interpret technical manuals, service bulletins, and repair diagrams.
• Conduct safety inspections and ensure all equipment complies with safety standards.
• Maintain accurate service and repair records using the company's maintenance management system.
• Collaborate with operators and supervisors to ensure equipment availability and minimize downtime.
• Operate diagnostic equipment and tools efficiently.
• Adhere to all site safety rules and regulations.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives for maintenance practices.

• Trade Qualification as a Mechanic (e.g., Diesel Mechanic, Plant Mechanic).
• Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Mechanic specializing in heavy mobile plant, mining, or construction equipment.
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems of heavy machinery.
• Experience with diagnostic software and tools for heavy equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, often under pressure.
• Valid driver's license (Code 10 or higher preferred).
• Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and overtime as required.
• Physically fit and able to work in demanding site conditions.
