Job Title:

Residential Support Worker – Children’s Services

Location:

Totton

Salary:
£28,000 – £30,000 + sleep-ins

Contract Type:
Full time – (Days, Evenings, Weekends, Bank Holidays)

Requirements

* Must have the right to live and work in the UK

* Must be able to work long shifts, including evenings and weekends

* Previous experience working with children or in a residential care setting is desirable

* Willingness to work towards Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (if not already held)

About the role

As a Residential Support Worker, you will play a key role in providing consistent, high-quality care in a children’s residential setting. You’ll help create a safe, stable, and supportive home environment that enables young people to thrive emotionally, socially, and practically.

Key responsibilities include:

* Supporting children with daily routines such as cooking, cleaning, and personal care

* Building positive relationships and acting as a key worker

* Encouraging engagement in education, activities, and community life

* Attending appointments and supporting young people in developing independence

* Managing challenging behaviours and responding effectively in crisis situations (training provided)

* Promoting safeguarding and emotional wellbeing at all times

Skills

* 6–12 months’ experience in a care environment (children or adults)

* Good understanding of safeguarding and child protection principles

* Strong written and verbal communication skills

* Empathetic, resilient, and trustworthy

* Able to work effectively as part of a team and independently

* Comfortable using computers and recording systems

* Willing to actively participate in activities with children in and outside the home
