World Language Teacher (MS/HS Spanish and French or German)Reports To: Middle School Principal
Position OverviewAISB is seeking a World Language Teacher for grades 6-12. The ideal candidate will be able to teach Spanish and one other language (French or German) and have a strong foundation in the AERO World Language Standards and the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum. This position requires an educator who can inspire students to develop their language skills and develop a deeper understanding of cultural and linguistic concepts within an international, diverse learning environment.
In addition, the teacher will support a group of 8-10 students as part of our Middle School advisory program.

Knowledge

- Demonstrates a solid understanding of the AERO World Language Standards and the IB Diploma programme
- Demonstrates an understanding of how to teach a concept-based curriculum and integrate inquiry into the learning experience for students
- Understands Backward Design planning and the importance of collaboration for the program to be successful
- Understands Standards-Based Teaching, Grading, and Reporting
- Can unpack standards/benchmarks and communicate learning objectives in student-friendly terms
- Demonstrates an understanding of typical developmental characteristics of adolescents
Qualifications & Experience
- Holds a valid teaching certification (or equivalent) in their teaching field
- Proficient in oral and written Spanish and another language (Level C1 in CEFR or Advanced in ACTFL framework)
- Recent experience teaching Spanish and another language in Middle and/or High School and in the IB DP or similar (AP, GCSE, etc.)
- Technology literate in Web and Google Applications
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Master's Degree in the subject area or in education
- Experience with or knowledge of Comprehensible Input (CI) / Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling (TPRS)
- Experience with Mind Brain Education (Science of Learning) and designing with these tenets in mind
- Understanding of the varying needs of language learners across divisions, as well as experience teaching various age levels, is an asset
- Experience with Course Management software (e.g., Veracross, Google Classroom) and online grading
- Experience with online curriculum documentation (e.g., Atlas Rubicon)
- Experience with Advisory and Community Service programs
Curriculum Development and Instruction
- Collaborate with colleagues to develop and refine a challenging, relevant, and rigorous curriculum that meets learning outcomes
- Develop lesson plans that promote an inquiry-based approach to teaching within a standards-based curriculum
- Actively incorporate current research-based teaching practices and department essential agreements into daily teaching and learning
- Incorporate a range of activities and topics to engage students and cater to students with diverse interests and abilities in language acquisition
- Use Universal Design for Learning to design for students who excel and for those who need additional support, including English Language Learners
- Teach a concept-based curriculum and integrate inquiry into the learning experience for students
- Maintain and regularly update online course management tool (Google, Veracross)
- Effectively prepare long-term and short-term lesson plans; maintain overall units on Atlas using the UbD format
- Integrate technology and digital tools with intentionality, to enhance learning experiences
