The American International School of Budapest (AISB) seeks to appoint a Grade 9-10 High School Counselor with a starting date of August 1, 2026.

Job Title:Grade 9-10 High School Counselor (Comprehensive)
Reports To: High School Principal
Position OverviewThe counselor’s primary function is to work collaboratively with school leadership, grade-level leaders, student support team members, teachers, and families to help guide students throughout their high school academic journey and to foster the personal and social development of our diverse international student body. The counselor plays a key role in fostering academic achievement, social-emotional growth, and personal development, and strives to ensure that all interactions contribute to creating an inclusive environment that values each student's well-being and success, in line with the school's Mission, Vision, and Values.
The counselor collaborates with the Middle School team to ensure a smooth transition for Grade 8 students entering high school.

Knowledge
- Strong understanding of adolescent development and transitional support from middle to high school, and the typical (and atypical) challenges students face.
- Commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive, and student-centered school culture.
- Knowledge of how to work with students and families to manage mental health / social-emotional problems as they arise
- Understands the importance of a proactive, articulated Social Emotional Learning (SEL) program across the school
- Strong knowledge and understanding of relevant safeguarding and child protection policies and protocols in an international setting.
Certifications & Experience
- Holds a Master’s degree in School Counseling, Psychology, or a related field.
- Minimum three years of relevant counseling experience, preferably in an international school setting
- Counsels students using a variety of theories and appropriate techniques to resolve concerns
- Experience working in a multicultural environment with a culturally diverse student population and with families for whom English is a second language.
- Technology literate in Web and Google Applications
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Master's Degree in counseling, guidance, educational/developmental psychology, clinical psychology or equivalent experience
- Experience working in an international school or with familiarity with international Curriculum (IB/AP programs) and experience in supporting students in these academic tracks.
- Experience with Course Management software (e.g., Veracross, Google Apps)
- Experience with online programs used to administer scheduling and counseling programs (University school management systems, Veracross, etc.)
- Demonstration of ongoing professional development in areas of best practice
- Implement school policies and procedures aligned with AISB’s Mission, Vision, and Values.
