ABOUT THE ROLE:
SpaceXAI is seeking a Turbine Technician to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot gas turbine generator packages at our power generation facility. This is a hands‑on role: you will inspect running turbine packages, support start‑up and shutdown, respond to trips and alarms, restore equipment, and keep generation online. You will work across the turbine, generator, and package auxiliaries — following OEM procedures, site MOPs, and engineering direction in a fast‑paced environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operate, inspect, and maintain gas turbine generator packages (including Solar and 6000-class units) and associated auxiliaries: lube oil, hydraulic, fuel gas, inlet air, enclosure ventilation, cooling, fire/gas detection, and generator systems
- Support turbine start‑up, loading, shutdown, cooldown, and turning‑gear operations per OEM and site procedures
- Perform daily inspections of turbines and package systems; identify leaks, vibration, temperature, and alarm issues early and self‑report before they affect generation
- Troubleshoot and repair operational issues on turbine packages during normal operation, start‑up, trips, outages, or commissioning
- Adjust, repair, or replace faulty mechanical, electrical, and controls components on turbines, generators, and package auxiliaries
- Assist with maintenance and troubleshooting of turbine control systems, including OEM turbine controllers, PLC, HMI, and SCADA interfaces
- Write, follow, and execute MOPs, SOPs, and EOPs; support lockout/tagout, hot work, confined space, and site safety and environmental requirements
- Support scheduled turbine outages: filter changes, inspections, OEM work, system isolation, and return‑to‑service
- Support commissioning by witnessing turbine start‑up, assisting with functional testing, and monitoring turnover
- Read and interpret P&IDs, OEM manuals, schematics, and drawings; coordinate with operations, maintenance, and engineering to restore the turbine and keep generation online
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalency certificate
- 3+ years of hands‑on experience as a technician or operator working on gas turbines, rotating equipment, or industrial mechanical, electrical, and/or control systems
PREFERRED
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Experience operating or maintaining gas turbines (Solar, 6000-class, or similar) in a power plant or industrial generation setting
- Experience with turbine auxiliaries (lube oil, fuel gas, inlet filtration, enclosure systems) and generator systems
- Experience writing and executing MOPs, SOPs, and EOPs
- Experience troubleshooting turbine equipment, including OEM turbine control interfaces and PLC/HMI/SCADA
- Associate’s degree in a technical field (e.g., Power Plant Technology, Turbine Technology, Mechatronics) or equivalent experience
- Strong documentation, communication, and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to work independently in a team environment
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to lift at least 25 lbs (unassisted), climb ladders, and work in confined spaces
- Must be willing to travel up to 25%. Position is based at a SpaceX power generation facility; work at other SpaceX sites for extended periods may be required
- Must be available to work overtime, weekends, and rotating shifts as needed based on turbine operational needs
- Ability to work in all environments (heat, cold, rain) while wearing appropriate PPE and remaining focused in hazardous areas
