Job Summary
Assures efficient and effective general management of the laboratory’s phlebotomy services by appropriate resource utilization, using appropriate assessment techniques, taking corrective action, and providing essential education and training to personnel; assures effective operations management using total quality management and process improvements; assures effective financial management by adhering to budgetary goals/plans and purchasing policies. This position is under the direct supervision of the pathology manager or administrative director or assistant director.
The incumbent is also responsible for 24 hours/day, 7 days/week, on-site 8 hours/day, 5 days/week subject to call back as required.

- Assesses phlebotomy workload and assigns tasks by ensuring timely, accurate and appropriate performance of testing and reporting of results to achieve maximum utilization of resources.
- Assures policies and procedures are properly maintained and executed by ensuring proper preparation and confidentiality of personnel, technical and administrative reports and records to ensure established performance standards are followed.
- Assures personal and professional development of employees and self‑development by encouraging and scheduling staff participation in continuing education workshops, professional meetings, to meet goals of the hospital and the department.
- Assures that acceptable specimen processing protocols are followed by maintaining accurate records of receipt, processing, and disposition of sample/specimen and/or products. Assures accuracy of patient results by following protocols/procedures to aid in determining a plan of care for the patient.
- Assures efficient operation of work area by planning and implementing efficient resource management including general, financial, operations and personnel management to assist in development of budgetary goals.
- Assures accuracy of patient test results by following approved quality control protocols/procedures.
- Attend in‑services and continuing education events as it relates to maintaining proficiency/competency for policies and procedures or obtaining additional knowledge on existing or new policies and procedures.
- Performs related accountabilities/responsibilities as required or directed.

Required:
- Two (2) years of experience as a Phlebotomist in a hospital, clinic, doctor’s office, etc.
