A Carpenter Helper will assist Carpenters in completing journeyman tasks. They may lay out, assemble, and assist in complex tasks, learn mathematical functions for their craft, and properly identify and receive instruction on the proper and safe use of hand tools, power tools, and equipment.
- Level IV:
Competent to complete Journeyman level Carpenter tasks with minimal supervision.
- Construct, fabricate, install, and dismantle form work from fixtures of metal, wood, and other accessories.
- May build or reinforce forms or bracing prior to pours.
- Framework for expansion joints and edges with edging tools, jointers, and straight edge.
- Verifies accuracy of structure with transit, plumb bob, square and level.
- Uses carpentry hand tools such as hammers, levels, squares, screw drivers, adjustable wrenches, hand and power saws, drill motors and pry bars.
- Levels, smoothes and shapes surfaces of freshly poured concrete, using straight edge and float or power screed.
- Nails cleats (braces) across boards to construct concrete‑supporting forms.
- Assists with preparing layout of form or fixture to be fabricated using lines or grades.
- Assists with erecting handrails, walkways, and gangways in conjunction with formwork.
- Makes concrete or epoxy grouts using mixing machine or hoe.
- Signals concrete deliverer to position truck to facilitate pouring.
- Loads, transports and unloads tools, equipment, and supplies.
- Observes flat drawings or diagrams and understands how they would look like solid objects.
- Works within precise standards of accuracy.
- Operates electric and pneumatic tools.
- Performs minor maintenance and cleaning activities with tools and equipment.

- Reports all incidents, near hits, and hazards to management.

- Participates in workplace inspections.
- Complies with statutory requirements, including duty of care.
- Participates in required and assigned training.
- Provides suggestions to improve Safety.
- Maintains a mature approach to working safely.
- Attends pre‑start and Safety meetings and contributes.
- Other related duties as needed and assigned by Field Supervision.
- This is not an all‑inclusive list of tasks an employee may be asked to do; employees are expected to complete any tasks they are assigned.
Level IV
- Thirty‑six (36) months or more of heavy industrial‑related carpenter experience
- Other verified experiences or certifications with carpenter experience
Level III
- Twenty‑four (24) to thirty‑five (35) months of heavy industrial‑related carpenter experience
Level II
- Twelve (12) to twenty‑three (23) months of heavy industrial‑related carpenter experience
Level I
- Zero (0) to eleven (11) months of heavy industrial‑related carpenter experience
- One (1) year of industrial experience
- Must have the ability to read and interpret instructions and documentation
- Personal hand tools required for craft as established on the Yates Industrial Minimum Tool List
- Successful completion of required Safety training to include, but not limited to, Confined Space, LOTO, and Working at Heights
