Civil Concrete Finisher(s)

The Heavy Civil Concrete Finisher is responsible for placing, finishing, repairing, and curing concrete on heavy civil construction projects. This position performs precision concrete finishing on bridges, roadways, sidewalks, curbs, retaining walls, culverts, foundations, water and wastewater facilities, and other infrastructure projects. The Heavy Civil Concrete Finisher works closely with form carpenters, ironworkers, laborers, equipment operators, and supervisors to ensure concrete work meets project specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements.

• Place, level, consolidate, and finish concrete for heavy civil construction projects.
• Perform concrete finishing using hand and power tools, including screeds, floats, trowels, edgers, groovers, and vibrators.
• Finish concrete surfaces to required grades, slopes, elevations, and specified surface textures.
• Construct and finish sidewalks, curb and gutter, bridge decks, retaining walls, foundations, box culverts, headwalls, slabs, and structural concrete.
• Apply broom, exposed aggregate, smooth, and specialty finishes as required by project specifications.
• Monitor concrete set times and perform finishing operations to achieve the desired surface quality.
• Install expansion joints, control joints, water stops, dowels, and other concrete accessories.
• Assist with concrete placement, vibration, curing, and protection of freshly placed concrete.
• Repair concrete surfaces, patch defects, and perform surface restoration as needed.
• Read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, grades, and layout information.
• Verify elevations and alignment using levels, lasers, straightedges, and measuring tools.
• Coordinate work with form carpenters, reinforcing steel crews, pump operators, and inspectors.
• Maintain finishing tools and equipment in safe operating condition.
• Follow all OSHA, company, and project-specific safety requirements.
• Perform general construction duties and assist other crafts when necessary.
• Complete additional duties as assigned by supervisors.

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of concrete finishing experience in heavy civil, bridge, highway, or industrial construction.
• Experience finishing structural concrete and large-scale concrete placements.
• Ability to read construction drawings and project specifications.
• Knowledge of concrete mix designs, placement methods, curing techniques, and finishing practices.
• Ability to safely operate hand and power finishing equipment.
• Valid driver's license preferred.

• Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
• Ability to stand, kneel, crouch, bend, and work in wet concrete for extended periods.
• Ability to work on uneven terrain, elevated structures, and around heavy equipment.
• Manual dexterity to safely operate finishing tools and equipment.
  
  Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and overtime when required.

• Outdoor heavy construction environments with exposure to concrete, dust, mud, noise, vibration, and changing weather.
• Frequent work around cranes, concrete pumps, paving equipment, excavators, and other heavy machinery.
• Travel to multiple project locations may be required based on project assignments.

• OSHA 10-Hour or OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification
• First Aid/CPR Certification
• ACI Concrete Flatwork Finisher Certification (preferred)
• Competent Person – Excavation and Trenching
• Aerial Lift Certification
• Rigging and Signal Person Certification

• Produce high-quality concrete finishes that meet project specifications and industry standards.
• Complete work safely while maintaining productivity and efficiency.
• Ensure concrete surfaces are finished accurately to required grades, elevations, and textures.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Demonstrate reliability, professionalism, and strong teamwork on every project.
• Protect newly placed concrete and ensure proper curing methods are followed to maximize durability and performance.
