Waivered Special Education Teacher

The Waivered Special Education Teacher is responsible for promoting progress on students' educational goals based on the needs of the team and as directed by the Education Coordinator or team supervisors. General responsibilities include role modeling for professionalism and teaching skills, role modeling for teaching ACE SA, TA, IT lesson plans, serving as a waivered licensed teacher in the classroom and shift manager on a regular basis, serving as case manager or education role on residential/ITT teams depending on team's needs, serving as shift manager (holds shift) in classroom on a regular basis or as a back-up core shift manager, serving as team's educational support when the Education Coordinator is out, answering questions, relaying any educational concerns to Program Specialist (if immediate response needed) or Education Coordinator upon return, fostering generalization of skills from school to home/residence, communicating pertinent information to Ed Coord, Program Specialist and team members efficiently and effectively, and on residential and ITT teams, schedule includes one weekend day and one evening per week.

Additional responsibilities will include one or more of the following and is determined by the Program Specialist and Education Coordinator, based on the team's needs: assisting with MCAS-alt data collection, conducting core skill assessments, completing or reviewing progress reports, preparing reports for Management by Objective (MBO) meetings, and participating in other activities that promote student engagement and learning.

Qualifications include exceptional communication, teaching, and leadership skills, must be eligible for DESE Waiver for Educator License, which includes staff enrolled in the Simmons licensure program, including first-year students. Continued progress towards licensure is needed to maintain waiver in subsequent years. Flexibility may be needed to attend trainings at scheduled times. As a general rule, WST and CSM roles are held by different people due to the unique needs of each.
