Work ScheduleWe support work‑life balance by offering hybrid schedules for certain roles. Current guidelines require employees to work at least three days in the office, including Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with a third day set by the employee and supervisor based on department needs. JobOverview
The Lead Engineer is responsible for the development, expansion, planning, and design of the gas transmission and distribution system to meet the mission and objectives of the gas organization. The role coordinates the evaluation of system failures and resolves issues to support gas operations during unplanned maintenance.
Essential Functions- Supervises, coaches, and develops engineers; approves time and conducts performance reviews.
- Assigns, prioritizes, and directs work performed by at least two FTE engineers and external engineering resources.
- Directs external engineering technical and consulting resources in the development of required designs, work scopes, and schedules.
- Responsible for the cost and performance of certain assets, including reliability analysis, trending of system events, and monitoring of equipment condition.
- Develops, justifies, and approves the Asset Family Plan activities over a multi‑year horizon and for ongoing projects.
- Ensures design and specification of additions, modifications, and replacements to the transmission and distribution system, and the preparation of special gas permits and easements are completed accurately and on time.
- Develops preliminary and detailed engineering designs as necessary, and collaborates with other engineers to ensure consistency across the organization.
- Provides technical support and direction to operating areas regarding system priorities, engineering guidelines, and operating and maintenance procedures and construction standards.
- Accounts for root‑cause analysis, development, and implementation of Gas Engineering corrective actions.
- Evaluates and selects technology and equipment for the system.
- Supports the development of standards and procedures for design, operation, maintenance, and emergency response.
- Presents scope and progress of projects, results of studies, and new tools, equipment, and procedures to Gas Business leadership.
- Assumes the role of the Manager as required.
- Education:
Bachelor of Science in Engineering. - Experience:
Minimum eight (8) years in technical, operational, or engineering aspects of the gas utility industry. - Supervisory experience preferred.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
- Knowledge of gas systems, components, design standards, procedures, and industry codes.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
Must be available for emergency restoration assignments as required and for travel between MA, CT, and NH. Work is performed primarily in an office environment that involves sitting, standing, walking, and climbing stairs. The position may require occasional to significant travel by car and requires a valid driver’s license. This position is categorized as safety‑sensitive for drug testing purposes.
