Job DescriptionThe Clinical Resource Nurse is a full time position to assist and implement the school health program in collaboration with the school nurse team. The school nurse addresses and promotes the physical, mental, emotional and social well‑being of students and the school community. The school nurse supports student success by providing health care through assessment, intervention and follow‑up for all children within the school setting.
The school nurse is an essential, professional member of the school community providing assessment and resources in all areas of health and wellness. The Clinical Resource School Nurse scope of responsibilities includes providing school nursing services for a designated school population, for the health needs of a specific student, for a group of students participating in a school‑sponsored field trip or out‑of‑school setting activity, or in collaboration with the permanent school nurse to implement mandated health screenings or other special nursing activities.
Required Qualifications:
- Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, per the Board of Registration (BORN)
- Minimum Baccalaureate degree in nursing (accredited college or university)
- Minimum two (2) years supervised nursing experience
- Current BLS for Healthcare Provider certification
- Valid MA DESE Professional Support Personnel license

- Familiarity with Health Office Anywhere (Electronic Health Record) documentation
- Knowledge about Massachusetts school health standards, rules and regulations
Job Duties
- Provides high quality nursing care to students and staff
- Performs health screenings as requested
- Coordinates referrals to private healthcare providers
- Serves as a liaison between school personnel, family, and community healthcare providers to ensure a healthy school environment.
- Administers medication and medically prescribed procedures
- Properly documents student and staff encounters
- Collaborates with the school nurse team
- Fulfills the duties of the assigned school nurse in their absence
- Gathering and organizing student records
- Organization of files of incoming students
- Reviewing registration and enrollment forms
- Developing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating plans for student care
- Providing a nurturing, welcoming, trusting and safe atmosphere
- Serving as a consultant with other school professionals
- Providing health‑related education to students and staff in both individual and group settings
- Collaborating with staff and administration to ensure a healthy and safe school environment
- Monitoring immunizations, managing communicable diseases, and assessing the school environment to prevent injury and ensure safety
- Developing health care plans and emergency action plans
- Overseeing infection control measures
- Overseeing medication administration and health care procedures
- Overseeing mandated screenings, referrals and follow‑up
- Making decisions related to the delegation of healthcare tasks as directed by state laws and professional practice guidance
- Providing health advice to school educational teams both general education and special education
- Assisting families with locating outside care and obtaining health insurance
- Maintaining up‑to‑date cumulative health records on all students
- Consulting with Nurse Leader and/or school physician when appropriate
- Informing appropriate staff members of students with special health needs when necessary
- Collaborating with local public health departments when necessary

Work is generally performed in a school environment during the school day, however there may be occasions for after‑school meetings.
