General Description

The Clinical Resource Nurse is a full‑time position that assists and implements the school health program in collaboration with the school nurse team. The nurse promotes the physical, mental, emotional and social well‑being of students and the school community, providing assessment, intervention and follow‑up for all children within the school setting. The role supports student success by delivering essential health care and by providing assessment and resources across all areas of health and wellness.

Required Qualifications
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts (Board of Registration)
  • Minimum Baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum two (2) years of supervised nursing experience
  • Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS) certification
  • Valid Massachusetts DESE Professional Support Personnel license

  • Previous pediatric nursing experience
  • Familiarity with Health Office Anywhere electronic health record system
  • Knowledge of Massachusetts school health standards, rules and regulations
Essential

Job Duties
  • Provides high‑quality nursing care to students and staff
  • Performs health screenings as requested
  • Coordinates referrals to private healthcare providers
  • Serves as a liaison between school personnel, families and community healthcare providers to ensure a healthy school environment
  • Administers medication and medically prescribed procedures
  • Documents student and staff encounters accurately
  • Collaborates with the school nurse team
  • Fulfills the duties of the assigned school nurse in their absence
  • Gathers and organizes student records, including registration and enrollment forms
  • Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates plans for student care
  • Provides a nurturing, welcoming, trusting and safe atmosphere
  • Consults with other school professionals and provides health‑related education in individual and group settings
  • Collaborates with staff and administration to maintain a safe school environment
  • Monitors immunizations, manages communicable diseases, and assesses the school environment to prevent injury and ensure safety
  • Develops health care plans and emergency action plans
  • Oversees infection control measures, medication administration, and health care procedures
  • Oversees mandated screenings, referrals and follow‑up
  • Delegates healthcare tasks in accordance with state laws and professional guidance
  • Provides health advice to general and special education teams
  • Assists families in locating outside care and obtaining health insurance
  • Maintains up‑to‑date cumulative health records for all students
  • Consults with the Nurse Leader and/or school physician as appropriate
  • Informs appropriate staff of students with special health needs when necessary
  • Collaborates with local public health departments when necessary
Work Environment &

Physical Requirements

Work is generally performed in a school environment during the school day, with occasional after‑school meetings.

Physical requirements:

the nurse frequently walks, stands, sits, talks and hears; regularly bends, stoops, crouches and/or kneels; occasionally lifts or moves objects up to 25 pounds; and must have sufficient mobility to navigate within a large school building.
