GENERAL DESCRIPTION (1-3 LINES DESCRIBING ROLE):

To deliver high quality social-emotional learning, health and safety curriculum, and deliver differentiated therapy in small group and one-on-one settings. To work together in partnership with families and the community at large to promote the ongoing development of each student’s academic, personal/social, and career potential.

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s Degree preferred
  • Appropriate DESE license
  • Ability to handle multitude of varying and complex issues
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to use technology effectively

  • Ability to work autonomously and make independent decisions
  • Ability to organize tasks, set priorities and meet deadlines, manage multiple tasks
  • Recognize and understand students’ individual interests that may translate into a meaningful post-secondary plan
  • Previous experience with a Therapeutic Program preferred
  • Good judgment and good problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES (NOT LIMITED TO):
  • Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) teams to individualize interventions and write social-emotional goals and accommodations.
  • Monitor student progress, collect data, and write progress reports for students in the therapeutic program.
  • Assess student emotional and behavioral needs.
  • Develop treatment/behavior plans for students as appropriate and oversee implementation of those plans.
  • Conduct Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA) with the assistance of the District BCBA.
  • Develop and implement positive behavior intervention support plans in consultation with the District level BCBA. Provide modeling and training on the positive behavior intervention support plans to building staff.
  • Collect and analyze data on risk and protective factors related to student outcomes.
  • Generate and interpret useful student and school outcome data.
  • Provide individual and group counseling.
  • Promote problem solving and conflict resolution skills development.
  • Reinforce positive coping skills (e.g., stress anger, anxiety, etc.) to develop resiliency.
  • Promote positive peer relationships and social problem solving.
  • Conduct risk assessments, safety plans and lead process for re-entry as needed.
  • Maintain regular communication with student’s community resources in order to better provide wraparound services.
  • Enhance staff understanding and responsiveness to diverse cultures and backgrounds as it relates to social emotional learning.
  • Consult with staff regularly in order to help enhance understanding of student needs.
  • Attend annual de-escalation training and complete requirements to be able to train building staff.
  • Responsible for implementing “other job related duties” as assigned by the Principal and/or Student Support Services Administration.
  • Consistent and on-time attendance is required for supervision and instruction of the students.
  • Other responsibilities as needed.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work Environment:

Majority of work is performed in a school/classroom environment. The noise level in the environment is usually moderate.

Physical Requirements:

The school adjustment counselor is regularly required to bend, stoop, crouch and/or kneel. The school adjustment counselor is occasionally required to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
