The Position:
The Fleet Manager, reporting to the Vice President of Transportation, is responsible for overseeing all dispatch functions for Barrett’s fleet operations. This role ensures the efficient, safe, and cost-effective movement of customers’ products while delivering exceptional service and operational excellence.
This position works on-site Monday through Friday, from 8am-5pm.
The compensation range for this position is $80K-$90K per year, depending on experience.
Your Day-to-Day:
- Oversee daily trucking routes and driver schedules to ensure compliance with customer contract requirements.
- Manage routing modifications to maximize efficient use of equipment and labor.
- Set, monitor, and evaluate productivity, service, and safety targets for each route and driver.
- Monitor daily truck revenue and explain variances from company standards.
- Prepare and deliver monthly business reviews focused on driver productivity and spending versus budget.
- Develop, monitor, and improve field efficiencies while identifying opportunities to enhance operational performance.
- Analyze expenditures and financial data to develop plans, policies, and budgets that improve profitability and service levels.
- Handle complaints and operational challenges by working with management to develop and execute action plans to improve driver performance, profitability, and customer service.
- Partner with customers and internal and external stakeholders to identify, evaluate, and remove safety obstacles.
- Ensure compliance with safety programs, protocols, and all federal, state, and local regulations.
- Provide leadership and oversight to professional drivers, including recruiting, training, coaching, and performance management.
- Manage night and weekend driver supervisors, maintaining ownership of operations 24/7 with off-hour support.
- Plan, organize, and manage staff workloads to ensure work is completed in alignment with organizational requirements.
- Monitor operations to ensure staff compliance with administrative policies, safety rules, and government regulations.
- Actively lead daily start-up meetings and communicate goals, expectations, and company-wide updates.
- Promote safe work practices through safety audits, safety meetings, and individual coaching.
- Manage fleet maintenance schedules to minimize downtime due to mechanical failures.
- Schedule and coordinate outside vendors for preventive maintenance, accident repairs, and snow removal.
