Reports To: Building Principal

Primary purpose: To create a flexible elementary grade program and a classroom environment conducive to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with students; to motivate them to develop the skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for elementary education, according to each student’s ability; to foster good relationships with parents and other staff members.

Responsibilities
  • Teach reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, and science according to Massachusetts Curriculum Standards.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to each student’s needs.
  • Guide learning toward established district curriculum goals, communicating clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects.
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies, including inquiry, group discussion, lecture, and discovery.
  • Follow PBIS and a classroom code of conduct that aligns with district policies, creating and enforcing fair classroom behavior rules.
  • Evaluate students’ academic and social growth; maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss student progress and interpret the school program.
  • Identify student needs and collaborate with other professional staff to assess and support students.
  • Create an effective learning environment through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.
  • Maintain professional competence through in‑service professional development.
  • Participate cooperatively with the appropriate administrator in fulfilling teacher evaluation procedures.
  • Supervise students in hallways, recess areas, and the lunchroom during the school day.
  • Administer group standardized tests in accordance with the state testing program.
  • Attend school‑sponsored activities such as Open House as agreed with the building administrator and faculty, in accordance with the teacher’s contract.
Qualifications – Required
  • Education:

    Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution.
  • Hold a valid Massachusetts Teaching License.
  • Hold a valid Massachusetts SEI Endorsement or grade‑level appropriate ESL License.
  • Meet all state and federal guidelines to be fully licensed and Highly Qualified.
  • Current authorization to work in the United States; candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment.
Qualifications – Preferred
  • Experience in urban, high‑poverty, and/or turnaround schools.
  • Major or minor in specific teaching content area.
  • Additional certification in Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities and/or English Language Learners (ESL).
  • Demonstrated experience in English Language Development (ELD) and Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) strategies.
  • Bilingual language proficiency (Spanish/English).
