Accountability Objective

Implement and adapt direct/explicit academic and specially designed instruction across content areas using multi‑sensory teaching, differentiated strategies, modified content, methodology, performance criteria, and assistive/educational technology for students receiving services in an inclusion setting.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
  • Collaborate with grade‑level teachers, other special education teachers, and specialists to provide comprehensive and effective services to assigned students.
  • Promote and assist in implementing research‑based strategies to ensure the transition of students’ academic and social goals into the regular education environment.
  • Assess student progress toward objectives and provide feedback to students, parents, and administration.
  • Serve as contact person for your caseload, completing paperwork such as IEPs and progress reports, managing the team process, and maintaining communication between all stakeholders.
  • Utilize classroom management strategies, including a positive behavior intervention system, to create a motivating instructional environment.
  • Gather data from multiple sources for progress monitoring and use data‑based decision making to guide instruction.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to student maturity.
  • Guide the learning process toward district curriculum goals, communicating clear objectives for all lessons.
  • Prepare for classes and provide evidence of preparation as required.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media in alignment with classroom conditions.
  • Implement the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals.
  • Maintain accurate, complete records required by law and district policy.
  • Diagnose learning challenges and seek assistance from district specialists when needed.
  • Take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Follow the district code of conduct, establishing fair and consistent classroom rules.
  • Plan and supervise paraprofessional assignments, providing written evaluations.
  • Engage in ongoing professional growth that satisfies district and personal expectations.
  • Participate in the teacher evaluation process and collaborate on evaluation outcomes.
  • Attend building and district meetings to promote communication and decision making among staff.
  • Attend traditional school‑sponsored activities as required by contract.
  • Contribute to district and building decisions on budget, facilities, curriculum, and staff well‑being.
  • Maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Supervise assigned paraprofessionals.
  • Coordinate schedules to comply with IEP requirements and efficient resource use.
  • Consult on instructional and student issues as a participatory team member.

Qualifications – Required
  • Education:

    Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution.
  • Valid Massachusetts Teaching License in Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities PreK‑8 OR Teacher of Students with Severe Disabilities All Grades.
  • Valid Massachusetts SEI Endorsement OR grade‑level appropriate ESL License.
  • Meet all state and federal guidelines for full licensure and Highly Qualified status.
  • Current authorization to work in the United States; must be in place by first day of employment.
Qualifications – Preferred
  • Experience in urban, high‑poverty, and/or turnaround schools.
  • Major/minor in a specific teaching content area.
