Job Description

Southbridge Public Schools serve approximately 2,200 students across six schools, and we are on a trajectory of rapid improvement. Principal Accountabilities
  • Remain up to date regarding curriculum content.
  • Plan and assess curriculum and instruction effectively.
  • Mentor students' understanding of the curriculum and adjust instruction, materials, or assessments when appropriate.
  • Manage classroom environment effectively.
  • Deliver instruction, making learning goals clear and using appropriate instructional and questioning techniques.
  • Use innovative approaches and instructional strategies, including the effective use of technology, to increase student learning and confidence.
  • Promote high standards and expectations for student achievement.
  • Promote equity and appreciation of diversity, ensuring equitable opportunities for student learning, including implementing specific strategies for students with special needs, 504 plans, and second language learners.
  • Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
  • Collaborate with SPED and ELL specialists to meet the specific needs of particular students.
  • Prepare students for MCAS.
  • Understand Middle School philosophy and the structure of middle school teams.
  • Maintain data and documentation as appropriate.
  • Participate in school‑wide professional development and seek continual feedback and coaching to develop as a teacher.
  • Ensure equal educational opportunity for all individuals regardless of race, color, gender, age, marital status, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, homelessness, or disability.
  • Any other duties assigned by the Superintendent of Schools or their designee.
Qualifications Required
  • Education:

    Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution.
  • Hold a valid Massachusetts Teaching License in English 5-12.
  • Hold a valid Massachusetts SEI Endorsement or grade‑level appropriate ESL License.
  • Meet all state and federal guidelines to be fully licensed and highly qualified.
  • Current authorization to work in the United States; candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment.
  • Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
Qualifications Preferred
  • Experience in urban, high‑poverty, and/or turnaround schools.
  • Major/minor in a specific teaching content area.
  • Additional certification in Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities and/or English Language Learners (ESL).
  • Demonstrated experience in English Language Development (ELD) and Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) strategies.
  • Bilingual language proficiency (Spanish/English).
