Positive Behavior Supports & Interventions (PBIS) School Based Coach:
Description of Role & Responsibilities Description of Role:

Our PBIS Coaches play a vital role in our school-wide implementation of both Tier 1 and Tier 2 PBIS. The PBIS Coaches meet regularly (generally weekly) with administration to ensure a unified vision for supporting staff in implementation of Tier 1 and Tier 2 PBIS. The PBIS Coaches lead a recurring meeting (usually weekly) of the PBIS team, which includes grade team leaders and other participating teachers, to push out and monitor consistent implementation of PBIS throughout the school.

The PBIS coaches also hear and respond to feedback from staff to ensure that barriers to success are addressed immediately.

  • The PBIS Coaches will ensure that the PBIS team works together cohesively to provide high quality direction and support to staff and students in implementing PBIS. This aspect of the role includes:
  • Working with the PBIS team to build a calendar of positive events that get students and staff invested
  • Working with the PBIS team to support teachers in implementing Tier 1 behavior management
  • Ensuring that the PBIS team meets regularly, and all team members are on time, engaged, and productive during team meetings.
  • Maintaining positive relationships and morale among the school staff
  • Provide high quality professional development for staff
  • Be a teacher leader within the school modeling positive behavioral practices within your classroom and throughout the school
  • Help support and coach teachers with classroom management practices
  • The PBIS Coaches will collaborate closely with administrators. This aspect of the role includes:
  • Developing PBIS meeting agendas and reviewing PBIS action plans to ensure appropriate progress is being made and any obstacles are anticipated and addressed.
  • Advocating candidly for the needs of the teachers while also providing a "united front" of leadership (between PBIS and administration) that is understood by the PBIS team and teachers.
Specific Responsibilities:
  • Set agenda and lead weekly meetings of the PBIS Team
  • Meetings should include topics such as reviewing data to identify behavioral focus areas, and regular review of the PBIS Action Plan.
  • PBIS coaches should facilitate meetings to allow for all team members to actively participate.
  • Work out details and communication of both PBIS plans, so that these plans are followed through by teachers throughout the school.
  • Attend monthly coaches meetings with the District Coach/Supervisor
  • Additional responsibilities as determined to be necessary to meet the needs and goals of implementing PBIS.
