Under the direction of the Laboratory Manager performs all venipunctures and capillary collection on patients and transports all specimens to the Laboratory. Settings include physician’s offices, nursing homes, assisted living facilities and home draws.

I.
Major Responsibilities:
1.
Draws blood specimens following proper procedure.
2.
Labels all specimens according to policy   3.
Transports or prepares for transport all specimens to the laboratory   4.
Follow all laboratory and hospital safety rules and universal precautions.
5.
Monitors patient for negative reactions and takes appropriate measures to allay patient anxiety   6.
Greets patient using customer care concepts   7.
Verify patient information and in draw station enter information into the computer   8.
Responds to inquiries from physician’ office, nursing home or patient   9.
Verifies or confirms patients’ orders as needed   10.
Maintains appropriate logs or records   11.
Participates in the training of new employees   12.
Assures that written physician orders accompany requested tests and ensures diagnosis is present   13.
Informs supervisor of any patient or physician concerns for PI trending   14.
Maintains an inventory of supplies consistent with usage   15.
Covers in all areas of phlebotomy as needed

Graduate of a Certificate program in Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant.
