Role Overview

The LPN, under the supervision of the Nurse Director or designee, provides nursing care to interventional psychiatry patients, assisting them to move safely through hospitalization and coordinating care with staff, physicians, and administration.

Major Responsibilities

Use the nursing process to assess and plan patient care

Perform nursing tasks in accordance with policies and procedures

Respond effectively in urgent and emergent situations

Delegate tasks to nursing staff

Coordinate information exchange between staff, physicians, and administration

Manage changing patient flow and acuity on the unit

Position Qualifications

Required: Graduation and training from an accredited school of nursing with current license by the Massachusetts B.O.R.N. and American Heart Association BLS certification (or equivalent) upon hire or during orientation
Preferred: Minimum of one year of general medical-surgical experience

Position Summary – Interventional Psychiatry LPN

The LPN provides direct clinical support for advanced psychiatric treatments, including Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), esketamine therapy, and long-acting injectable (LAI) medications. Tasks include treatment administration, patient monitoring, education, documentation, and collaboration with psychiatric providers to ensure safe, effective, and compassionate care.

Key Responsibilities

Administer TMS treatments per established protocols and provider orders

Prepare, administer, and monitor patients receiving esketamine therapy in compliance with REMS requirements

Administer long-acting injectable psychiatric medications per provider orders and best practice standards

Ensure accurate treatment setup, dosing verification, and equipment operation

Monitor patients before, during, and after treatments for side effects, adverse reactions, and changes in mental or physical status

Obtain and document vital signs and required assessments per protocol

Respond to emergent situations and alert providers as needed

Maintain a calm support environment for patients undergoing interventional treatments

Educate patients on treatment procedures, expectations, side effects, and post‑treatment instructions

Provide reassurance and therapeutic communication to reduce anxiety and promote adherence

Serve as a point of contact for patient questions related to treatments

Accurately document treatments, assessments, patient responses, and communications in the electronic health record

Maintain compliance with clinic policies, state nursing regulations, and federal requirements (including REMS for esketamine)

Assist with treatment logs, audits, and quality assurance activities

Collaborate with psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, and clinical staff to coordinate care

Assist with scheduling, treatment flow, and maintaining efficient clinic operations

Participate in staff meetings, training, and continuing education
