Position: Public Safety Officer, Harrington Hospital Southbridge Campus - 24 Hours, Days

Exemption Status: Non-Exempt

Hiring Range: $17.36 - $31.26

Final offer may vary within this range based on experience, skills, qualifications, and internal equity considerations.

Major Responsibilities
  • Provide security for the safety and protection of hospital patients, staff, general public, and properties.
  • Periodically patrol buildings and grounds of Hospital; examine doors, windows, and other points of entry to verify security.
  • Tag and record all points of entry found unlocked or unsecured.
  • Warn violators of rule infractions and apprehend or expel persons engaging in suspicious or criminal acts, in accordance with applicable laws.
  • Watch for and report irregularities such as fire hazards, leaking water pipes, and security doors left unlocked.
  • Observe departing personnel to guard against theft of hospital property.
  • Record data such as property damage, unusual occurrences, and other acts of suspicious instances.
  • Assist local authorities with investigation of incidents committed on hospital properties.
  • Report all criminal acts to appropriate security leadership and/or local authorities.
  • Assist hospital staff as required, providing protection and safety to patients or other individuals.
  • Adhere to all general orders and/or special orders as directed.

  • Comply with established departmental policies, procedures and objectives.
  • Attend variety of meetings, conferences, seminars as required or directed.
  • Demonstrate use of Quality Improvement in daily operations.
  • Comply with all health and safety regulations and requirements.
  • Respect diverse views and approaches, demonstrate Standards of Respect, and contribute to creating and maintaining a professional, tolerant, civic and acceptance environment toward all employees, patients and visitors.
  • Maintain regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
  • Perform other similar and related duties as required or directed.
Position Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Three years related experience and/or training in public safety.
  • Obtain and satisfactorily complete the initial 8 hour Hospital Orientation Program and Annual Competency Reviews and any other training as may be occasionally mandated.
  • Obtain and satisfactorily complete annual (or biannual as applicable) re-certifications in CPR, Fit testing for Tuberculosis Respirator Masks, Hazard Communication Program, Annual Fire Suppression and Hazard Recognition Training, Annual Self Defense and Management of Violent Situations Training, annual training and physical completion for the Emergency Response Team, and other training as may be determined by the Supervisor of Public Safety.
  • Avade 2 (restraint) training completion required within 6 months of hire into role.
  • Valid Driver’s License required.
  • Successful completion of Management Of Aggressive Behavior within 30 days of hire.
Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions
  • Must be able to run, stoop, crawl, climb stairs, carry another human being, and stand for long periods of time without any physical limitations and during all kinds of weather conditions.
  • Must have manual dexterity to operate a public safety vehicle, emergency lights, public safety radios, radio scanners, telephones, MDT, etc.
  • Must possess the ability to drive a public safety vehicle and speak on the radio at the same time and ensure that public safety officers and trainees assigned to his/her shift are likewise proficient.
Milford Regional Addendum
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • Successful completion of Management of Aggressive Behavior within 30 days of hire required.
