Moore Buddies Mentoring was formed in 1995 with the mission to champion successful youth through mentoring and empowering families. Moore County Literacy Council was formed in 1987 with the mission to work with others to significantly improve literacy in Moore County in ways that are measurable and immeasurable. In January 2021, the two organizations merged to form the CARE Group, Inc.
C.A.R.E. stands for connecting available resources for education.
Together our programs consist of one-on-one mentoring and tutoring for at-risk youth; one-on-one tutoring for adult English Language Learners (ELLs) and Basic Education Learners (ABE);
Digital Literacy Classes for all levels; and Motheread/Fatheread(r). Our vision is to have a community in which families are thriving and youth have promising futures.
You can become a volunteer tutor and teach an adult the joy of reading. All you need is a little time.
TimeAverage 2.5 - 3.0 hours per week (includes preparation and travel time).
Commitmenton-going with the intent to build a relationship with the student.
TrainingTutors of adult students are required to complete at the Read Moore Center 1 hour of MCLC orientation plus 12 hours of Pro Literacy training. Training is offered after orientation in accordance to your schedule.
- Adult Basic Education (ABE) ~ Tutor an adult for 1.5 - 2.0 hours/week in basic reading, writing and/or math skills.
- English as a Second Language (ESL) ~ Tutor an adult from another country for 1.5 - 2.0 hours/week to improve his/her reading, writing and conversation skills.
