The position you are applying for is a non-career, seasonal Camp Counselor in the Recreation Division of the Parks and Recreation Department. This position currently pays hourly. The beginning rate is $13.73. Persons serving in this position are not eligible for fringe benefits.

RepresentativeJob Duties
- Conduct and assist with a variety of games, crafts, sports and special events for youth ages 5-13.
- Lead campers through daily activities.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of campers.
- Clean and sanitize camp equipment and common use areas.
- Enforce strict safety protocols with campers and co-workers.
- Perform various other duties as determined by supervisor.
This position reports directly to the Camp Coordinator, who is under supervision of the Recreation Programmer - Youth.
Job Requirements - As Determined By the City Of SouthfieldApplicants must be at least 16 years of age and have prior experience of working with children. Due to State of Michigan Day Camp employment requirements, a limited number of positions are available for applicants who are 16 years old; additional positions are available for applicants 18 years and older.
Individuals selected for this position must be able to work effectively with children and the public and demonstrate professionalism, creativity, and a positive attitude. Duties require the ability to work outdoors, clean and sanitize equipment, and consistently enforce health and safety protocols.
All applicants must successfully complete an oral interview, either by phone or in person. Employment is contingent upon passing a criminal history background check and receiving central registry clearance.
Supplemental Information Schedule- Latchkey is from 8:00 am to 9:00 am. Camp day begins at 8:30 am and ends at 4:30 pm. Camp meets Monday through Friday. Camp coordinator will determine actual schedule.
- Counselors are expected to work 7 weeks, 35-40 hours each week.
- Counselors must attend all scheduled training dates.
- Counselors must be flexible and available to work when needed. Weekly schedule may include a shift beginning at 8:00 am and/or ending after 4:30 pm.
