Field Technician

The Field Technician plays a vital role in monitoring high-impact projects, from trenchless rehabilitation and deep excavations to slip lining, cast-in-place concrete, flow control device installations (gates, stop logs), and advanced monitoring instruments. Reporting to Project Supervision, this position provides essential reports that keep our projects on course.

The position holds a wide variety of responsibilities that include, but are not limited to:

• Monitor complex underground and sewer rehabilitation projects, including trenchless methods, deep excavations, slip lining, cast-in-place concrete, flow control devices (gates, stop logs), and monitoring instruments, ensuring compliance with project specifications.
• Conduct Pipeline Assessment Certification Program (PACP) inspections, analyzing pre- and post-installation videos to evaluate pipeline conditions and deliver actionable findings.
• Review material testing data (e.g., soils, aggregates, concrete) from field reports to verify quality and adherence to project standards.
• Accurately record project progress, including daily quantities, anomalies, and field data, using Excel, project management software, or field notebooks.
• Prepare and compile comprehensive technical reports, including PACP inspection summaries and progress updates, for Project Supervision and stakeholders.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, contractors, and owner representatives to provide timely updates and resolve project challenges.
• Ensure adherence to public health, safety, and environmental regulations, including confined space protocols, by monitoring field practices and reporting hazards.
• Track crew logistics and equipment maintenance needs, maintaining accurate driver logs and submitting timely maintenance requests.
• Perform occasional hands‑on tasks during site visits, such as carrying materials or equipment (up to 50 lbs.), to support field operations.
• Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned to drive project success and team objectives.

• High School Diploma or equivalent required; associate’s degree or coursework in construction management, civil engineering, or related field preferred.
• Pipeline Assessment Certification Program (PACP) certification required or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
• Preferred certifications: ACI Concrete Field Testing, Nuclear Densometer Safety, Confined Space Entry, OSHA 10/30‑hour, or traffic control certifications.
• Experience in construction, pipeline inspection, or related fields is advantageous but not mandatory; a strong work ethic and eagerness to learn are critical.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and project management software for data analysis and reporting.
• Exceptional technical writing, analytical, and detail‑oriented skills for precise reporting and data interpretation.
• Superior verbal and written communication, time management, and organizational skills to excel in a fast‑paced environment.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record for regular site visits (up to 50% travel in the local Detroit area).
• Physical capability to lift and carry 25–50 lbs. and work in field conditions near and in live sewers, confined spaces, or deep excavations.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Field‑based role requiring frequent standing, walking, climbing ladders/stairs, and monitoring operations near and in live sewers, confined spaces, or deep excavations. Must be able to lift and carry 25–50 lbs. to handle materials or equipment during site visits. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus for reviewing videos and site conditions.

Work is performed outdoors around large construction equipment, demanding strict adherence to safety protocols.
