The Special Education Coordinator provides instructional leadership, coaching, compliance oversight, and program management for special education services across multiple schools. This role ensures high-quality programming aligned with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education (MARSE), and district expectations while supporting special education staff through coaching, collaboration, and professional development.
The Coordinator serves as the primary liaison between schools, families, service providers, and district leadership to ensure students with disabilities receive equitable, compliant, and effective educational services.
This position requires regular travel topartner school locations throughout the Metro Detroit area.
QualificationsRequired:
- Bachelor's degree
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with Special Education endorsement(s)
- Minimum of five (5) years of successful experience in a public school special education setting
- Experience developing, implementing, and monitoring Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Demonstrated knowledge ofIDEA, MARSE, andstate and federal special education requirements
- Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and the ability to travel throughout the Metro Detroit area
- Master's degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, or arelated field
- Administrator certificationor leadership experience
- Experience supervising or coaching special education staff
- Experience facilitating professional learning for educators
- Experience coordinating district-wide special education programs or initiatives
- Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and community agencies
- Provide instructional leadership, coaching, and supportto special education staff across multiple school locations.
- Ensure compliance withIDEA, MARSE, Section
504, and district policies and procedures. - Monitor IEP implementation, student services, documentation, and program quality.
- Collaborate with school leaders, families, service providers, and community partners to support student success.
- Facilitate IEP meetings and provide guidance on special education best practices.
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate special education staff while supporting professional growth.
- Coordinate staffing, service delivery, and special education programming across assigned schools.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure timely completion of required compliance documentation.
- Participate in organizational leadership initiatives,professional development, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Travel regularly to partner schools throughout the Metro Detroit area and perform other duties as assigned.
