The Calibration Engineer is responsible for setting the crash algorithm parameters and the overall sensing strategy of the Airbag Electronic Modules for a specific vehicle platform. This includes processing the crash data, simulating the deployment times from the algorithm, setting the adjustable parameters, negotiating the acceptance directly with the customer, presenting the work to the team for a final technical review and signing-off the calibration validation results from the hardware-in-the-loop testing.
- Support Project, Software, and Product Assurance teams in implementing crash algorithms in airbag modules, including:
- Understanding new algorithms and customer-specific requirements
- Specifying new algorithm features as needed
- Supporting validation of algorithm features
- Process crash test data, convert it to Veoneer format, and present it for review using internal tools
- Simulate deployment times using the Veoneer standard calibration tool
- Open, modify, and adjust calibration algorithm parameter settings
- Organize team calibrations, facilitating group problem-solving among engineers
- Present calibration strategies, options, and trade-offs to customers
- Negotiate calibration sign-off directly with the customer
- Organize peer reviews to present work for evaluation
- Review and sign off calibration results from the Algorithm Validation Test Stand
- Create calibration reports documenting results and processes
- Read and understand crash algorithm specifications
- Interpret customer specifications for airbag module crash algorithms
- Present current or new algorithms to customers
- Attend recurring algorithm meetings with the customer
- BS in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Physics (MS preferred)
- At least 2 years’ experience with customer/supplier interaction is required
- Skilled in Python, Matlab, Word, Powerpoint, Excel
- Knowledge of Automotive Electronic Products. Automotive Safety would be a plus
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Skilled in technical negotiation, learning & teaching, problem/puzzle solving and team work
- Flexible, resilient, honest and accountable
- Multi-cultural awareness would be a plus
