SENIOR CORE WIRING ENGINEER – TERMINALS AND CONNECTORS

SOUTHFIELD, MICHIGAN – WORLD HEADQUARTERS

The Core Wiring Engineer is a key technical role within our global E-Systems organization, serving as a subject matter expert in terminals, connectors, and associated components. This position is responsible for representing the wiring engineering function in all connector‑related matters, including issue resolution, component evaluation, and cross‑functional technical support. The role requires deep technical knowledge, strong analytical capabilities, and the ability to work across a broad range of supplier products and engineering teams.

This role is focused on technical leadership and issue resolution rather than primary product design. The Core Wiring Engineer acts as an internal expert and representative of the wiring function, ensuring that all connector systems are properly evaluated, applied, and supported throughout the product lifecycle.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary technical authority for terminals, connectors, and retainers within the wiring engineering team.
  • Provide global engineering support for connector‑related topics across multiple programs and regions.
  • Lead and support root‑cause analysis for warranty returns, field issues, and internal concerns involving connector systems.
  • Evaluate failures to determine whether root causes are related to design, application, manufacturing, or performance limitations.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including product engineering, quality, and suppliers, to resolve technical issues.
  • Conduct benchmarking and comparative analysis of connector systems from various suppliers to support component selection decisions.
  • Recommend optimal terminal and connector solutions based on performance, cost, and application requirements.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive knowledge of connector systems utilized in wire harness applications.
  • Interface with external suppliers to understand design intent, technical specifications, and performance characteristics.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Demonstrated experience in the design, development, or application of terminal and connector systems.
  • Strong understanding of connector performance requirements, validation methods, and failure modes.
  • Experience with root‑cause analysis, failure investigation, and problem‑solving methodologies.
  • Familiarity with OEM and industry standards related to connector systems (e.g., USCAR, OEM‑specific specifications).
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and test data.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting automotive electrical systems or wire harness design.
  • Prior involvement in warranty analysis or field issue resolution.
  • Knowledge of multiple connector systems across various suppliers.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills in a global engineering environment.
