Job Description
As a member of the Connection Systems team, the Application Engineer is responsible for leading customer interaction with onsite customer support. They will support new business developments, product changes, and quality issues. They will lead the engineering activity for assigned programs to ensure that products meet customer and company specifications and that program milestones are achieved.
ResponsibilitiesYour work will include, but not be limited to:
- Actively seek out new project opportunities for Lear in customer applications
- Increase existing product usage through new customer applications and vertical integration
- Collect customer intelligence and share VOC (Voice of the Customer) within the Lear organization to support the product roadmap
- Coordinate and monitor the engineering process for new products and product changes both internally and at the customer
- Provide onsite technical support to customer engineering & commercial teams to ensure proper application of Lear products is communicated (technical, timing, validation, etc.)
- Review and present component validation plans and reports with the customer
- Support issue resolution related to validation, release, part delivery, commercial and program topics
- Support RFQ activities by driving the technical deliverables to completion
- Typically be responsible for directing a group of support engineers
- Support internal CTO (Cost Technology Optimization) activities for continuous improvement and vertical integration
- Ability to travel globally (est. 1 or 2 times per year)
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or equivalent
- 3+ years of experience in Automotive Connectors & Electrical Distribution Systems
- Ability to represent Lear to the customer
- Ability to perform or support customer and internal drawing releases
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work within a global team environment, accepting feedback with an open mind
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to foster a team environment
- Self‑motivated, accountable, able to effectively organize, prioritize and accomplish multiple conflicting tasks with cross‑functional teams, make intelligent, timely decisions and solve problems independently
- Proficient with MS Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)
- Experience in component manufacturing and DFM (Design for Manufacturing)
- Proven delivery of full automotive component development cycles
- Experience with the design and manufacturing of injection‑molded plastics and stamped metal
- Knowledge of APQP processes for project documentation development and approval
- Experience working with all management levels within a large organization
- Knowledge in OEM processes/systems
- Knowledge of Caresoft/benchmarking tools
- Ability to use CAD as a design review tool
