The Water and Waste Pre Treatment Technician is responsible for providing technical oversight, program management, and compliance for wastewater treatment systems. This role focuses on ensuring treatment specifications are met, systems are optimized, and all operations adhere to environmental and regulatory standards. The Technician will oversee equipment performance, filtration systems, and automation controls while providing technical guidance to operations teams. This position requires technical knowledge, compliance expertise, and the ability to lead and/or subscribe to continuous improvement initiatives, audits, and customer-facing discussions.

Responsibilities/Duties
  • Provide oversight of wastewater treatment system operations, ensuring specifications and compliance are met by the operations team.
  • Operate and/or support overall program management of pre-treatment plant and systems, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and performance optimization.
  • Oversee process performance data, guide corrective actions, and drive optimization initiatives.
  • Represent Chemico in customer and regulatory meetings, audits, and compliance reviews.
  • Maintain documentation, reports, and records to ensure compliance with permits, policies, and procedures.
  • Assist in implementation of automation, monitoring systems, and data-driven controls for improved efficiency.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and oversight to operators and technicians.
  • Partner with site leadership to identify and implement process improvements in chemical management and waste reduction.
  • Continue supplier services, manage specifications for chemical usage, and ensure effective operation of treatment equipment and filtration systems.
  • Maintain high standards of safety, quality, and environmental stewardship at all times.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
  • Works effectively and maintains good working relationships with all levels of management, customers, customer contractors, suppliers, and company personnel
  • Possesses strong problem identification and resolution skills and cooperates with all internal customers
  • Successfully manages and prioritizes large volume of work
  • Demonstrate strong analytical and good interpersonal skills
  • Excellent knowledge of related process, chemistry, and sciences.
  • Ability to use computers/peripherals to create spreadsheets/documents/graphs/compose reports and presentations
  • Able to handle chemicals, and make chemical additions in excess of 30lbs
  • Occasional travel possibly required
  • 1-3 years related experience preferred.
  • understanding of the laws, rules and regulations associated with the industry
Required Qualifications
  • Relevant years of field experience, certifications, and/or an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, or related field. A degree is preferred but not required—equivalent industry experience and certifications will be considered in place of a degree.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of relevant experience in water/waste treatment operations, program management, or chemical management.
  • Experience with process controls, automation, and data-driven operations.
  • Knowledge of environmental permitting and compliance processes.
  • Ability to handle chemical additions and equipment operation (up to 50 lbs).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including email professionalism and technical reporting.
  • Comfort interacting with customers and presenting information in meetings.
  • Solid understanding of process controls, automation, and dosing systems.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations and permitting related to water/waste treatment.
  • Technical expertise in wastewater chemistry, process troubleshooting, and compliance monitoring.
  • Strong computer skills, including Excel, Word, and ability to analyze and present data.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring ability while still performing hands‑on physical work.
