Job Description
Controller –
Full‑time
Surgeons Choice Medical Center is a patient‑centered health‑care facility that focuses on hand, joint, orthopedic and sports medicine. This role is an integral part of our finance and revenue cycle teams.
Responsibilities- Controls and elevates all function and activities of the Corporate Finance Departments daily operations.
- Manages the billing, accounts receivable and payable departments.
- Assists/advises administrators and department managers in budgeting, cost accounting and revenue cycling.
- Oversees all other financial operations.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting is required.
- Master’s Degree in Accounting preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of successful Controller/CFO experience in healthcare.
- 2‑4 years of hospital experience is required.
- 2‑4 years of previous management experience in a revenue‑cycle hospital setting.
CPA preferred, not required.
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of general accounting systems/procedures.
- Strong spreadsheet skills and general ledger experience.
- Excellent leadership, communication and organizational skills.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and Office.
- Ability to detect and avoid errors in preparing and reviewing financial reports.
- Responsible for the organization’s fiscal operating results, financial reports, and statements, and for administration of its accounting practices and systems.
- Report monthly financial performance to the board and serve as an administrative liaison.
- Direct all fiscal activities including accounting, budgets, audit, taxes and preparation of regulatory agency and government reports.
- Assist in third‑party audits and work with auditors to ensure policies and controls meet established standards.
- Direct, coordinate and motivate subordinate staff to meet established objectives and standards.
- Overall responsibility for the investment strategy and monitoring of all corporate funds and pension funds.
- Responsible for hiring, performance evaluations and implementing all personnel actions in accordance with corporate policy.
- Assist the CEO in strategic and long‑range planning.
- Maintain an effective quality improvement program and productivity measurements.
- Direct department activities consistently with organization‑wide programs and procedures.
- Establish department policies and procedures reflecting the organization’s standards.
- Develop performance goals/objectives with each staff member to promote productivity and professional growth.
- Recommend ways to reduce expenditure or enhance revenue without compromising quality of services.
- Support hospital mission, policies and procedures through committee participation.
- Manage and reconcile the General Ledger.
- Provide interim financial reporting and develop management reports.
- Prepare third‑party reimbursement cost reports for Medicare, Medicaid and Blue Cross.
- Utilize MACI, QAAP and CHAP support.
- Analyze contractual allowance, physician contribution and hospital department productivity metrics.
- Examine capital purchase, new product line and real‑estate pro‑forma.
- Maintain debit analysis and manage the revenue cycle using contract analysis, claims verification and charge capture review.
- Assist in analysis of overhead and practice by location.
- Oversee the revenue cycle.
- Prepare monthly financial statements and other reports as requested by upper management.
- Analyze financial statements and expense reports to explain variances.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with hospital policies to aid in receipt of payment.
- Demonstrate initiative and follow‑through.
- Promote effective working relations and work effectively as part of cross‑departmental teams.
- Maintain HIPAA and other lawful practices.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
