Overview

As a key member of the maintenance and renovation team, the Renovation Technician plays a critical role in transforming and enhancing properties throughout the Paragon Properties portfolio by combining technical expertise, quality workmanship, and a strong focus on safety and customer satisfaction.

The Renovation Technician is responsible for performing a wide range of tasks related to residential and commercial building renovations, including unit turns, upgrades, repairs, and remodels. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, carpentry work, installation of fixtures, cabinetry, doors, trim, flooring, and other finishing elements, as well as repairing and modifying existing structures. The Renovation Technician ensures all work is completed in accordance with project specifications, quality standards, and applicable safety regulations.

Success in this role requires strong attention to detail, a solid understanding of construction methods and materials, and the ability to accurately interpret and execute project plans and specifications. The ideal candidate demonstrates excellent craftsmanship, problem‑solving abilities, and a commitment to delivering high‑quality results on schedule.

Responsibilities
  • Carpentry – Perform carpentry tasks such as framing, installing doors, cabinets, countertops, windows, and repairing or constructing structures.
  • Fixture Installation – Install and replace fixtures such as lighting, plumbing and electrical components.
  • Demolition – Safely demolish and remove old structures and materials as required for renovation projects such as cabinets, doors, shelving, and flooring.
  • Repairs – Identify and fix issues with existing structures, including walls, floors, balconies, doors, and ceilings.
  • Apartment Turnover – Prepare units for new residents per the Apartment Turnover procedures.
  • Material Handling – Select, handle and use construction materials appropriately, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
  • Reading Plans – Interpret and follow project plans, blueprints, and specifications for accurate execution of renovation tasks.
  • Safety Compliance – Adhere to safety regulations to maintain a secure working environment.
  • Collaboration – Coordinate with other team members, contractors, and the Regional Facilities Manager to ensure smooth workflow.
  • Problem Solving – Troubleshoot issues that may arise during the renovation process and implement effective solutions.
  • Budget Awareness – Monitor and manage project budgets, ensuring resources are utilized efficiently.

Position Requirements
  • 2+ years of property management, industrial or institutional experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college‑level or trade school preferred
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Must be able to travel to Southfield and Westland areas
  • YARDI experience preferred
  • Superior knowledge of Fair Housing regulations
  • Capability to read and understand work orders, project plans, blueprints, and specifications outlining the work being performed
  • Strong understanding of safety protocols and the ability to work in compliance with industry standards
  • Practical hands‑on experience in construction, renovation, or a similar field
  • Knowledge of building structures, carpentry, drywall, plumbing, electrical work, and other relevant construction skills
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair HVAC equipment, plumbing systems, electrical systems, major appliances, and other community systems
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment and adapt to changing assignments and priorities
  • Pre‑employment background check, drug screening and physicals are required before employment begins
