Alarm Service Technician
We are seeking a skilled and reliable Fire Alarm/Security Service Technician to join our team. The technician will install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair fire alarm and security systems to ensure the safety and compliance of client facilities. This role requires strong technical aptitude, hands-on field experience, and the ability to work independently and as part of a service team to deliver prompt, high-quality service.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine inspection, testing, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of fire alarm systems, burglar alarms, and integrated security systems in accordance with applicable codes and company standards.
- Respond to service calls and emergency alarms; diagnose issues using manufacturer documentation, diagnostic tools, and system software; implement effective repairs on-site.
- Install, commission, and program fire alarm control panels, detectors, notification devices, and associated wiring; ensure systems are fully operational and documented per job specifications.
- Maintain accurate service records, test reports, and work orders in the company’s management system; provide clear documentation for client records and regulatory inspections.
- Coordinate with clients, project managers, and other trade contractors to schedule work, verify system functionality, and communicate required actions or follow-up.
- Perform system upgrades and retrofits to meet code changes and customer requirements, including replacing outdated components and integrating new devices.
- Follow safety practices and comply with local, state, and national fire and electrical codes, as well as company health and safety policies.
- Provide on-the-job training and guidance to junior technicians and apprentices as needed, and support continuous improvement of service procedures.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Service Technician in alarm service, fire alarm, or security systems maintenance and repair.
- NICET Level II certification in fire alarm systems (or equivalent) required.
- State Fire Alarm Technician License required (must be valid in the state(s) of operation).
- Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams, and system documentation.
- Proficient with alarm system programming, testing equipment, and diagnostic tools.
- Valid drivers license with a clean driving record; willingness to travel to client sites and work flexible hours including on-call rotations.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills, with attention to detail and ability to work independently.
- Nice to have: experience with CCTV systems, access control systems, networking fundamentals, and both fire and burglar alarm technologies.
- Physical ability to perform fieldwork including climbing ladders, lifting equipment, and working in confined spaces when required.
