Career Navigator

Gesher Human Services is a bridge to hope and opportunity for people at work, at home, and in the community. Gesher's workforce development, behavioral health, and inclusion programming serves all Metro Detroiters while meeting the needs of the Jewish community.

The Career Navigator will conduct all intakes and schedule the people we serve based on the information provided. Following the community-based work assessment the Career Navigator will provide a detailed report with recommendations for moving forward. The Career Navigator is the case manager and point of contact for the duration of the participant program. The Career Navigator must be available to problem solve any concerns that arise.

They provide the job coaches with feedback on how to best work with the people we serve.

Education:

Bachelor's degree required. Other:
Interpersonal skills sufficient to communicate with participants, employers, public and staff. Composition and basic computer skills sufficient to prepare required reports. Driving record must be sufficient to meet safe driving standards as established by Agency insurance carrier. Reliable automobile, valid Michigan driver's license, and proof of auto no-fault insurance required. Work experience with individuals with significant intellectual or developmental disabilities, particularly Autism preferred.

First Aide & CPR certification and fluency in American Sign Language preferred. Ability to work flexible hours in community and facility settings, as well as traveling to local sites using own vehicle.

Coordinate and complete the intake process, obtaining and completing necessary documentation. Complete comprehensive reports for all program services. Plan and conduct sales presentations regarding vocational assessment services to new and existing customers to reach or exceed referral and billing goals. In conjunction with Rehabilitation Director, develop marketing plans and materials related to the program. Develop, coordinate, monitor, and revise as needed, individual plans of service.

Provide case coordination for program participants. Collect data and comprehensive reports of participant's progress towards goals/objectives. Complete final reports in an accurate and timely manner. Using assessment of participant's functional skills, interests, outside support system, financial situation, and transportation availability, determine most appropriate vocational options. Assist participants to learn, maximize, and maintain work skills and core work behaviors. Maintain production and quality standards at each site.

Supervise participants and facilitate development/refinement of interpersonal skills during lunch, breaks, and transitional periods. Provide formal and informal in-service/training, including role modeling to school personnel, employers, co-workers, and participants to facilitate social integration at the work site. Assist participants to develop sufficient understanding of their skills and abilities to make informed vocational choices. Maintain participant files, including accurate and timely progress documentation, and gather appropriate statistical information in accordance with established governing standards.

Utilize placement and job development techniques to develop jobs for participants and assessment sites. Complete required paperwork in compliance with applicable standards. Use systematic instruction, task analysis and related techniques to implement on-the-job training, including substituting for job coaches, as needed.

Work involves transporting participants as needed using own vehicle or operating Agency vehicle, as assigned. Serve on Agency committee(s) as appointed.

Environmental conditions:

Moderate noise (i.e., business office with computers, phone, and printers, light traffic). Ability to work in a confined area. Ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period.

Physical requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to, stand, sit; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard, reach, stoop, kneel to install computer equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work. Light to moderate lifting in required. Accommodation(s):
