Position Overview
Assistant Store Director for our Southgate, MI Store location. Provide direction in operations, processes, and conditions of the store, plan and supervise the team in day‑to‑day operations, select, train, develop and performance‑manage all team members. Develop strategies to improve customer service and drive sales and profitability, ensure customer needs are met, complaints are resolved efficiently, merchandise is effectively displayed, forecast staffing needs, recruit and retain talent, and reflect the Meijer brand and values.
Key Responsibilities- Overall operations responsibility across food and general merchandise areas.
- Management across the store of planograms, seasonal resets, and endcaps.
- Engage team members and leadership to provide the best possible shopping experience.
- Build a culture that drives positive team‑member engagement, retains talent, and attracts new talent to meet forecasted staffing needs.
- Identify, select, and develop talent within the store.
- Uphold cultural standards and values via open, clear, and effective communication.
- Assess the financial results of the store and implement appropriate business strategies to drive profitability.
- Ensure all products and displays are merchandised to maximize sales and profitability.
- Act as a strong community partner by cultivating relationships in the local community to support the Meijer brand.
- Lead performance‑management activities for leaders and team members, including ratings, career development, and promotion potential.
- Attract, select, and retain a team that supports the Meijer culture, valuing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Communicate daily with the team, lead huddles, share financial performance, customer feedback, recognition, and other important information.
- Ensure compliance with Meijer’s and local authorities’ food safety standards.
- Assist in creating a connection with the communities and customers we serve.
- Deliver on key performance metrics: sales, shrink, labor, margin, net profit, customer satisfaction, and safety.
- Drive new implementations and initiatives, remain informed of macro market changes, and keep Meijer competitive.
- Participate in daily DSD execution, backroom and salesfloor excellence.
- Monitor competitive trends, strengths, and weaknesses of current competitors.
- Follow company merchandising planograms and use the 85/15 rule to design plans, including ordering, weekly ads, seasonal assortments, displays, and pricing.
- Perform other duties as assigned or required.

- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 5+ years of retail/grocery/operations management/customer service experience.
- 4+ years of progressive leadership experience.
- A passion to lead those in span of care while providing industry‑leading service.
- Demonstrates proactive/creative thinking and applies it to the business.
- Strong business acumen.
- Innovative attitude to help Meijer set the industry standard.
