Position Overview

The Controller will be a key member of the leadership team, responsible for overseeing all accounting and financial management functions. This is a hands-on role ideal for someone who thrives in a growing company environment and enjoys building processes, improving systems, and partnering with ownership to drive profitability. The ideal candidate has construction industry experience, understands job costing and project-based accounting, and is comfortable working in both strategic and day-to-day accounting functions.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting

+ Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable

+ Process payroll on a weekly basis

+ Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements

+ Manage month-end and year-end close processes

+ Maintain internal controls and ensure compliance with GAAP

Job Costing & Project Accounting

+ Oversee job cost accounting and WIP (Work-in-Progress) reporting

+ Monitor project budgets, cost tracking, and variance analysis

+ Collaborate with project managers to ensure accurate cost forecasting

+ Support bid analysis and profitability assessments

Cash Flow & Budgeting

+ Manage cash flow forecasting and working capital

+ Develop and monitor company budgets

Leadership & Process Improvement

+ Improve accounting systems and implement scalable processes

+ Partner with ownership to support strategic planning and growth initiatives

Compliance

+ Coordinate with external CPA for tax preparation and audits

+ Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations

Requirements

Qualifications

+ Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred; may consider experience in exchange for degree

+ 10+ years of accounting experience, with at least 2-3 years in the construction industry

+ Strong understanding of job costing, WIP schedules, and percentage-of-completion accounting

+

Experience with construction accounting software (e.g., Sage, Foundation, Quick Books Construction)

+ Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills

+ Hands-on, detail-oriented, and comfortable in a growing company environment
