Position Summary

The Engineer III, Controls will provide technical leadership for the evaluation and implementation of automation and controls improvements to enhance the efficiency, quality, compliance, and safety of manufacturing operations. The role includes evaluating existing process controls, suggesting and refining controls improvements, collaborating closely with maintenance, and providing technical support to large projects—including automation design, implementation, and validation. The Engineer will also support manufacturing process improvements through established design control processes, good engineering and documentation practices, with the key responsibility of supporting and sustaining production.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide technical expertise (SME) for assigned equipment and machine control systems and lead troubleshooting and problem solving.
  • Complete independent analysis and develop solutions to problems, identify opportunities for process equipment, machine control, network/server improvements and cost savings.
  • Create and update P&IDs, wiring schematics and I/O drawings for controls systems.
  • Provide project scope, design, FAT, SAT, startup, commissioning, and support validation for equipment and control systems.
  • Provide engineering, controls design and programming, including development, modification and troubleshooting of AC/DC drives, PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, vision systems and robot controllers.
  • Provide technical input for long‑range replacement and short‑range continuous‑improvement projects and system lifecycle management plans.
  • Improve performance of manufacturing systems, e.g., OEE improvement, maintenance needs, MUV and scrap reduction.
  • Analyze data for diverse scope and complexity problems, evaluating identifiable factors.
  • Work independently after assignment, soliciting input from senior engineers and collaborating with Quality Engineers on qualification activities for new or modified processes and equipment.
  • Maintain cGMP compliance, supervise project‑specific activities, train new employees on HMIs, equipment, documentation, and procedures, and provide input on performance evaluations.
  • Deliver tailored communications to managers, peers and customers to maximize utility and promote cross‑functional collaboration.
  • Address conflicts and disagreements collaboratively, building consensus.
  • Work on special projects as they arise.
Knowledge & Skills
  • Understanding of automation, plastic injection molding, part assembly, fixturing, testing, and process control techniques.
  • Advanced competency in the domain and familiarity with other areas of domain expertise within the team.
  • Independent decision‑making impacting project objectives and success of projects or adjacent work groups/functions.
  • Programming skills:
    Rockwell, Factory Talk, Allen Bradley.
  • Solid understanding of equipment strategy and ability to recommend solutions to critical issues.
Minimum Qualifications , Education & Experience
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience required.
Work Environment
  • Professional office environment using standard office equipment. Work is performed in a clean room environment.
  • Must be able to occasionally move objects up to 25 lbs.
  • Typically requires travel less than 5% of the time.
