Position: Shear Operator (2nd Shift)

Job Summary

Yarde Metals is looking for a shear operator to join our Operations Team. A Shear Operator sets up, operates, and tends to the shear to safely cut material into pieces as ordered by the customer.

Responsibilities
  • Safety First! Reading work orders and production schedules to determine specifications, such as material to be used, locations of cuts, dimensions and tolerances.
  • Setting up shear for safe operation by adjusting speeds and feeds.
  • Visually identifying material alloys, forms, sizes, surface conditions, and obvious material defects.
  • Measuring material in accordance with quality procedures prior to cutting, using measuring devices including calipers, micrometers, tape measures, squares and verniers.
  • Safely operating various shears as required based on work load or business needs.
  • Measuring the dimensions of material per quality sampling plan to ensure accuracy of cuts.
  • Locating, retrieving and returning material to designated areas using motorized material handling equipment such as overhead cranes and forklifts.
  • Reselecting material in inventory system.
  • Examining completed work pieces for defects and to verify conformance to customer specifications.
  • Stacking and sorting finished products for packaging, processing and shipment.
  • Packaging and protecting material for shipment.
  • Cleaning shear according to designated maintenance procedures.
Requirements & Qualifications

This is a Safety Sensitive position: requires operating heavy machinery.

  • High School graduate or equivalent preferred.
  • Warehouse, material handling, and forklift experience required.
  • Experience related to the duties of operating a saw is strongly preferred.
  • Must be able to read, understand, and carry out work instructions in English.
  • Basic arithmetic skills to calculate and convert decimals and fractions required.
  • Must be able to read and understand basic measurement functions (ruler, caliper, etc.)
  • A consistent high level of attention to detail is required.
  • Ability to pass a human performance evaluation to meet physical requirements of the job (lifting up to 70 lbs., pushing, pulling, etc.)
