WHO WE ARE

Optiv Energy Inc. is a founder-led and managed renewable energy field services company, working on utility scale BESS, solar and wind projects. We are not a large corporation or private equity backed firm, we are a group of former technicians who truly understand the value of a strong company culture and live by it. You are not just a number at Optiv Energy, and profit is shared across the company every year.

WHAT

WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Optiv Energy Inc. is seeking motivated, positive, and experienced MV Technicians to troubleshoot, repair, and commission medium voltage transformers and switch gear on solar, wind, and battery storage sites across the US.

There are two sides to the job. On new projects, you test and commission the equipment before it energizes - in service, where we are growing fastest. You are the person who shows up when a transformer or a breaker trips, gasses, or leaks, works out why, fixes it, and puts it back in service with documentation behind it.

What you will do
  • Troubleshoot MV transformers when they trip, gas, or leak - sudden pressure and temperature trips, faulty gauges and indicators, leaks at gaskets, bushings, and valves - and find the root cause
  • Carry out the repair: gaskets, bushings, surge arresters, terminations, cooling and control accessories, oil processing and top-up
  • Pull oil samples and DGA, interpret the results, and recommend action on gassing units
  • Interrogate protective relays after a trip - retrieve fault records and event reports, read targets, and confirm what actually operated and why
  • Test and service MV switch gear and breakers - insulation resistance and dielectric withstand, contact and pole resistance, vacuum bottle integrity, breaker timing, and mechanism and interlock checks
  • Support removal, replacement, and re-commissioning of padmount and skid-mounted transformers
  • Perform acceptance and maintenance testing to ANSI/NETA ATS and MTS - insulation resistance, TTR, winding resistance, power factor, and VLF withstand on MV cable
  • Write the test reports and return-to-service records that owners and OEMs rely on
  • Work safely around energized MV equipment under NFPA 70E, LOTO, and site switching procedures
What we are looking for
  • 3+ years hands-on with MV equipment rated 5 kV–38 kV — transformers, switch gear, and their controls
  • Real experience troubleshooting and repairing liquid-filled transformers and MV switch gear, not just testing them
  • Journeyman Electrician license, or an equivalent MV testing and service background
  • Comfortable with the usual test gear — megger, TTR, power factor and low-resistance sets, VLF, and an IR camera
  • Good documentation habits. Clean reports matter as much as clean work here
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to sites and respond to callouts
Nice to have

Some of these, not all of them. We will teach you the rest.

  • NETA or NICET certification, or working toward one
  • Familiarity with protective relay software and pulling event records (SEL, ABB, GE, Beckwith, or similar) – Solar, wind, BESS, or substation experience
  • Transformer oil processing — vacuum dehydration, hot oil circulation, vacuum fill – Rigging and crane coordination for transformer set and removal
  • OSHA 10 or 30
The work itself

This is field work. You will travel to active project sites across the US and work outdoors through summer and winter, mixing scheduled commissioning and maintenance with short-notice service callouts. Expect time around energized MV equipment under strict safety protocols, work at heights and in confined spaces, and handling of insulating fluids.
