This is a hands-on, field-based role supporting both planned maintenance programmes and reactive breakdown work across customer sites.

This position will suit a technically strong, self-sufficient engineer who is comfortable working away from home when required and thrives in a practical, site-based environment.

As a Field Service Technician, you will be responsible for the inspection, maintenance, fault diagnosis, and repair of power transformers and associated high-voltage equipment across industrial and utility sites.

The role involves working to a structured maintenance schedule as well as responding to unplanned outages and emergency call-outs. Travel is essential, and overnight stays will form part of the working pattern.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on power and distribution transformers
  • Respond to reactive call-outs and emergency breakdown situations
  • Conduct fault finding, diagnostics, and repair on transformer systems
  • Perform oil sampling, testing, and condition assessments
  • Support installation, commissioning, and decommissioning activities
  • Work safely within HV/LV environments in line with industry regulations
  • Complete detailed service reports and documentation
  • Liaise directly with clients on-site, maintaining professional standards
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with health and safety legislation

Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience working within power distribution (essential)
  • Hands-on experience servicing and maintaining power or distribution transformers
  • Strong fault-finding capability within HV/LV systems
  • Understanding of transformer protection systems and associated equipment
  • Ability to work independently in field-based environments
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Willingness to travel nationally and stay overnight as required
  • HV Authorisation
  • Electrical engineering qualification (City & Guilds, NVQ, HNC or equivalent)
  • Experience working within utilities, industrial power, or renewable sectors
  • Oil processing and filtration experience
