Position Hours And Pay
7 hours per day for 4 days for the first year and 2 days each year following until certification is completed. This position is for 6.5 hours per day at 178 days per year.
Position pay: PSE Salary Schedule Level 5 - $24.76.
Official Hire DateYour hire date with the Bethel School District is based on School Board approval. This date depends on multiple factors and may change without notice. Please contact HR with any questions.
Required Training- Complete Washington State Core Competencies 1-14. Competencies 1-6 must be completed within the first six months of hire; 7-14 within the first year of hire.
- Complete online Autism Spectrum Disorder course within 3 months of hire.
- Complete Right Response Training within 3-5 months of hire; renewal annually prior to expiration date.
- Must be 18 years of age.
- Hold high school diploma or equivalent.
- And one of the following:
Successfully passed ETS Para Pro test or Pearson Paraprofessional assessment. - AA degree or higher.
- Earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at an accredited institution.
- Completion of registered apprenticeship program offered by Washington State Dept. of Labor & Industries.
- Successful completion of The Master Teacher Inc. Para educator Online Training Program.
Unofficial transcripts may be provided in the application but official ones are required upon hire. Not providing required documents could significantly delay official hire.

Job DescriptionAssist certificated staff with instructional and non‑instructional activities for non‑mainstreamed special education students, generally in a self‑contained classroom.
Duties include:
instructing students individually or in small groups; assisting with basic life skills; supervising student behavior activities; personal care, toilet teaching, feeding and communication development; and academic/pre‑academic instruction.
- Instruct moderately to severely handicapped students individually or in small groups to promote understanding of materials; provide encouragement, reinforcement, and achievement of educational objectives defined by certificated staff; assist in the administration of objective tests or other measurements.
- Communicate with certificated staff concerning individual student progress; adjust methods to meet needs of a wide variety of students; consult with certificated staff concerning remediation or enrichment activities.
- Assist certificated staff in maintaining records, logs, charts, assignments and other records for assessment of student progress.
- Attend to student physical and safety needs; monitor students for medical risks such as seizures and behaviors that may result in harm; correct behaviors and maintain discipline according to established policies.
- Assist students with toileting, including catheterization and diapering; attend to personal hygiene needs; assist with washing hands, face, brushing teeth and hair, and showers.
- Assist students with interpersonal and personal skills mastery; help feed students and teach social aspects of eating with others.
- Assist students with basic living skills and pre‑vocational activities; facilitate development of communication skills; integrate students with age‑group peers to the extent possible.
- Establish and maintain effective communication with students, staff and parents for student progress and safety, and community relations.
- Provide physical assistance to students such as lifting or positioning; use adaptive equipment to communicate; follow and document procedures established by physical therapist.
- Monitor need for first aid and refer for treatment as appropriate.
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of classroom and equipment; wash dishes; clean and disinfect tables and counters; wash and dry clothes, towels, washcloths and bibs.
