Position Hours and Pay
Position is 6.5 hours per day at 164 days per year and 3.5 hours per day at 14 days per year. 7 hours per day for 4 days for the first year and 2 days each year following until certification is completed.
Position pay: PSE Salary Schedule Level 5 – $24.76 (25‑26 PSE Salary Schedule).
Important InformationThis is a 1:1 support para educator position. A change in assignment and/or location may occur based on student‑specific needs and variations in school enrollment.
Official Hire DateYour hire date with the Bethel School District is based on School Board approval. The date may change without notice. Contact HR with any questions.
Required Training- Complete Right Response Training within 3–5 months of hire. Renewal must be completed annually prior to expiration.
- Successfully complete the Fundamental Course of Studies (FCS) and obtain the General Para educator Certificate per state requirements.
- Must be 18 years of age.
- Hold a high school diploma or its equivalent.
- One of the following:
- Successfully passed the ETS Para Pro test or Pearson Paraprofessional assessment.
- Associate degree or higher.
- Earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at an accredited institution.
- Completion of a registered apprenticeship program offered by the Washington State Dept. of Labor & Industries.
- Successful completion of The Master Teacher Inc. Para educator Online Training Program.

DescriptionThis position’s responsibilities include assisting certificated staff with instructional and non‑instructional activities for non‑mainstreamed special education students in a self‑contained classroom. Duties may include:
- Instructing moderately to severely handicapped students individually or in small groups; promoting understanding of materials; providing encouragement and reinforcement.
- Communicating with certificated staff concerning student progress; adjusting methods to meet diverse needs; consulting on remediation or enrichment activities.
- Assisting certificated staff in maintaining records, logs, charts, and other assessment documents.
- Monitoring students’ physical and safety needs; correcting behaviors and maintaining discipline according to established policies.
- Assisting with toileting, personal hygiene, and daily living skills; feeding and teaching social aspects of eating.
- Providing basic living skills and pre‑vocational activities; facilitating communication skill development.
- Establishing and maintaining effective communication with students, staff, and parents regarding progress and safety.
- Providing physical assistance to students and using adaptive equipment as directed by physical therapists.
- Monitoring needs for first aid and referring for treatment as appropriate.
- Maintaining classroom cleanliness, implementing equipment, and performing duties such as washing dishes and cleaning surfaces.
- Alert qualified district staff to student problems.
- Locate, prepare, and modify materials for student use and enrichment activities.
- Prepare, duplicate, collate, and distribute materials; operate office equipment.
- Maintain the physical appearance of classroom and assigned areas.
- Serve on district committees or departmental work teams.
- Model appropriate and cooperative behavior; protect confidential information.
- Perform related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
Reports to the school principal or assigned administrator; receives guidance from certificated staff.
Mental DemandsMay experience frequent interruptions; must handle a wide range of student behaviors, academic abilities, physical or emotional disabilities, and occasionally difficult situations.
Physical DemandsExposure to ordinary infectious diseases; exposure to student noise; lifting and positioning students and equipment such as wheelchairs; working in non‑routine positions for extended periods; attending to personal hygiene and medical procedures; potential exposure to biting behavior and bodily fluids; outdoor supervision…
