General Summary
This is a Teacher on Special Assignment position for the Teaching and Learning Department. Elementary Science, ELA, Math and Social Studies may be the focus and subject to change based on the needs of the school district. It will be expected that this TOSA will be able to facilitate professional learning meetings, PLCs, and support new and experienced teachers in the classroom.
Support for teachers and schools will include helping teachers implement curriculum and interventions as well as modeling lessons, team teaching and giving teachers feedback regarding the implementation of materials and instruction needed to move students toward meeting standards. This TOSA will need to be willing to be flexible with their work schedule as availability for after school work with teachers as well as summer professional learning is required.
Other duties could include but are not limited to collaborating with other TOSA's in the Teaching and Learning Department, supporting technology integration in classrooms, TPEP, coordinating professional learning opportunities and supporting all work that relates to the vision of the Teaching and Learning Department. Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) for Elementary(K-5) will work collaboratively with the Curriculum, Assessment, and Professional Development Directors.
The specialist will work closely with K-5 classroom teachers and department leaders. Responsibilities will include facilitating teacher support, curriculum alignment, supporting schools with using assessment data, and instructional support.
- Participate and support elementary adoptions and the instructional materials implementation process.
- Work with grade level teachers and leaders on K-5 resources and guides.
- Create learning opportunities & provide ongoing district, school and team training in all subjects.
- Assist teachers and schools in using assessment data to inform instruction and school improvement plans.
- Model, demonstrate lessons and co-plan with classroom teachers to support instructional growth and use of best practices with instructional materials.
- Support data driven instructional decision-making using formative and interim assessments.
- Support building and grade level professional learning communities.
- Attend professional development at district and state level to maintain understanding and awareness of current research in all subject areas and state initiatives.
- Build learning, collegial relationships with individual staff members.
- Attend planning meetings with the district Teaching and Learning department.
- Support grade level leaders, coaches, and School Leadership Teams.
- Support TPEP & teacher formation of Student Growth Goals.
- Model & support use of instructional technology.
- Support new and struggling elementary teachers.
- Provide professional development planning and facilitation for classroom teachers in a variety of settings (Waiver Days, after school, August Professional Learning Days, State PD Days, etc.).
- Effectively manage projects and time with clear outcome and results.
- Periodically adjust schedule in order to meet specific needs of the department, including participation and facilitation at August Professional Learning Days, State PD Days and before/after hours meetings/trainings.
- Support elementary curriculum implementation.
- Support state, district summative, interim & formative assessments.
- Provide training and assistance in understanding, and using data to inform instruction & differentiation.
- Support standards, instructional guide and teacher resource work.
Valid and appropriate certification. 5+ years of successful teaching experience. Experience on state and/or district instructional committees. Experience in leadership activities. Ability to articulate ideas and communicate well with others. Ability to organize ideas, coordinate multiple tasks and materials to accomplish goals. Ability to organize time and commit to a flexible work schedule. Experience in collaborating with teachers and administration around instructional practices.
Education and Experience:
