Position Hours and Pay

This position is for 6.5 hours per day, 178 days per year. For the first year, 7 hours per day for 4 days and 2 days each following year until certification is completed. Pay: PSE Salary Schedule Level 5, $24.76 (25‑26 PSE Salary Schedule).

Responsibilities

The role assists certificated staff, MTSS team, and administrators with instructional and non‑instructional activities for students in Tier 2 or Tier 3.

Responsibilities include:

  • Instruct students individually or in small groups in a variety of subject areas, settings, and learning activities; implement methods to best serve individual students academically and behaviorally under the direction of certificated staff.
  • Administer and support Tier II interventions such as check‑in/check‑out, behavior tracking, and student placement adjustments.
  • Communicate with certificated staff regarding student needs and progress.
  • Document student progress and maintain intervention records, assist in preparing and updating student plans, and communicate with parents as needed.
  • Create learning tools and materials, research resources, and assist with ordering supplies.
  • Type, duplicate, collate, organize, and distribute intervention materials; create posters, charts, and bulletin boards; operate office equipment and computers.
  • Conduct student observations for behavior, academic, or socio‑emotional needs.
  • Assist the MTSS team with scheduling meetings, note taking, and updating student plans.
  • Attend Tier I, II, or III meetings as necessary.
  • Assist with screening, testing schedules, scoring, and recording results in a digital data system.
  • Maintain and update student plans, teacher surveys, and follow up with the MTSS team for next steps.
  • Alert qualified staff to student problems.
  • Provide general clerical support; maintain student files and records.
  • Attend staff and program meetings as requested.
  • Serve on district committees or work teams as needed.
  • Interpret and perform related duties consistent with the scope of the position.
  • Minimum Qualifications
    • Must be 18 years of age.
    • Hold a high school diploma or GED; an associate degree, two years of higher education, or completion of the Washington State para educator assessment required.
    • Valid evidence of a state‑mandated Para educator Certificate Program completion or pending, along with Fundamental Course of Studies completion.
    • Pass the ETS Para‑Pro test or Pearson Paraprofessional assessment, an AA degree or higher, or fulfillment of other credentialing pathways listed in the original posting.
    • Demonstrated reading, writing, and communication skills.
    • Knowledge of basic subject areas such as reading and math.
    • Ability to work warmly and confidently with students, remain flexible, organize activities, follow instructions, maintain accurate records, demonstrate fairness, and implement behavior and instructional strategies.
    • Knowledge of student safety rules and procedures.
    • Computer proficiency and familiarity with general office equipment.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students and staff.
    • Background check and fingerprinting; completion of district infection control training.
    Reporting Relationships

    Reports to the school principal. Receives guidance from a basic skills specialist and coordinates with certificated staff.

    Physical and Mental Demands

    Frequent interruptions; handles a range of student behaviors and disabilities; exposure to infectious diseases; work noise; use of paper cutters; screen use; lifting up to 20 pounds.
