PAY FOR POSITION: PSE Salary Schedule Level 5 - $ 24.76

This position's responsibilities are to provide a wide variety of support to the school nurse by maintaining student health records, assessing the health needs of students; first aid; health screenings; dispensing of oral medication; catheterization;
Epi Pen injection for emergencies; nebulizer treatments; and gastrostomy tube feedings. Other responsibilities include maintaining computer records and lists, securing required health records from parents, maintaining health room supplies and providing a variety of clerical support to the school office.
- Maintains student health records; creates new records; updates health information; ensures that health records are maintained in confidential manner.
- Attends to student health needs; assesses injuries or illness to determine appropriate action; provides basic first aid; refers students to health care professionals as needed. Determines need for nurse's advice; calls nurse for assistance as necessary; provides school nurse with list of referrals; may call for emergency assistance. Informs school nurse and principal of severe injury, illness, unexcused absence, or unusual incident.
As needed, checks students for head lice; contacts parents as appropriate. - Administers medication to students as directed by physician, according to district policy procedures and under supervision of a nurse. Maintains appropriate records.
- Gathers, assesses and records immunization information; gathers health data for a variety of state reports, such as for scoliosis and immunization. Contacts parents or schools as needed to secure health records and immunization compliance in accordance with district procedures and time lines. Maintains documentation of parental contacts. Prepares forms for reporting purposes.
- Compiles health records, cards and lists; provides reports as requested. Maintains health room log. Completes accident reports and distributes them appropriately. Compiles, updates, and distributes health concerns information.
- Records health screening results for each student. Is responsible for organizing health screenings.
- May maintain student attendance records; track attendance, tardies and suspension data; verify and process student absence excuses; may maintain and report lunch count; informs administrator, school nurse, and/or parents of student absences.
- Maintains inventory of health room supplies; prepares supply orders; receives, verifies and stocks supplies.
- Monitors student behavior in the health room; corrects behavior as necessary; monitors individual health room use to prevent abuses. May train and supervise student assistants.
- Reports situations such as pregnancy, substance abuse or physical abuse to appropriate school staff for follow‑up. Maintains confidentiality of student personal problems.
- Attends scheduled health clerk meetings/in‑service.
- May, in conjunction with school nurse, provide information to parents about health issues.
- Provides a variety of clerical support to the school office such as answering telephones, filing, performing computer input and typing. Provides a variety of backup and peak load assistance and coverage in the school office.
- May process student enrollments and withdrawals; sends for and receives student records; maintains student records; may process teacher grade reports; may provide a variety of clerical support to school counselors, including scheduling appointments and meetings, compiling data for reports, typing scholarship recommendations, college applications and other student information.
- May serve on various district committees and/or departmental work teams. Models appropriate and cooperative behavior, including protecting confidential information, consistent with district ethical guidelines.
