Position: 2026/27 - Barnett Elementary School Regular Education Behavior Support Specialist TA211N
Description

Regular Education Behavior Support Specialist. Lane 2 - $17.81 per hour, 5.6 hours per day, 5 days a week, 177 days per year. Must be at least 18 years of age or older to apply. There are no benefits with this position.

Purpose Statement

The job of Regular Education Behavior Support Specialist is done for the purpose/s of improving student success in the basic social, behavioral and academic skills (e.g. reading, language, and/or math, and behavior skill building); assisting students by modeling the necessary skills to perform assignments.

Experience:

Job related experience is desired.

Education (Preferred):
High School Diploma or equivalent required. Associate Degree is beneficial.

Essential Functions
  • Assists the teacher for the purpose of improving students' academic success when a student's behavior impedes learning.
  • Collaborates with teachers and staff for the purpose of ensuring student academic and behavioral success.
  • Confers with teachers and/or other school personnel for the purpose of sharing students' progress and/or implementing students' objectives.
  • Documenting student behavior issues for the purpose of determining the need for further individualized assessment and individualized instruction.
  • Monitors individual and/or groups of students in various situations for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Participates in in-service workshops and training for the purpose of receiving and/or conveying information related to job functions.
  • Proctors tests (e.g. monitoring, correcting, etc.) for the purpose of assisting the teacher in evaluating students' progress when the student's behavior keeps them from testing with other students.
  • Provides supplemental instructional services to individuals or small groups under the supervision of the assigned classroom teacher (e.g. academic, behavioral skills, etc.) for the purpose of increasing academic and/or behavioral success.
  • Responds to emergency situations (e.g. injured student, fights, etc.) for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
  • Responds to inquiries for the purpose of solving problems, providing information and/or referral.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications
  • KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math; read and follow instructions; and understand written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: concepts of grammar and punctuation; age appropriate activities; health and safety standards and strategies dealing with student social behavior.
  • SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adhering to safety practices; operating standard office equipment including computers and pertinent software applications; preparing and maintaining accurate records; assisting students managing their own behaviors.
  • ABILITY is required to schedule activities; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using defined methods.
