Join Fit City Spanish Fork as a Swim Instructor!
Are you a passionate and skilled individual eager to share your love for swimming and empower our community's aquatic enthusiasts with essential water safety and swimming skills? Spanish Fork City is seeking dedicated Swim Instructors to lead engaging and effective swimming lessons in the pool areas of our Fit City Center.
This is a vital position where you'll guide participants of all ages and skill levels, directly contributing to their aquatic development and confidence in the water. You'll play a critical role in fostering a positive learning environment, promoting water safety, and helping individuals achieve their swimming goals.

About The Position

In this crucial role, you'll provide high-quality swim instruction, playing a critical part in developing water safety and swimming proficiency. Beyond teaching, you'll help foster strong connections with students and their families, contributing to a welcoming and supportive culture that makes our aquatic facility a cornerstone of community well-being.

Key Responsibilities

Instruction & Safety

  • Planning and delivering engaging, age-appropriate, and skill-level-appropriate swimming lessons.
  • Ensuring the safety of all participants during lessons, actively supervising and maintaining a safe teaching environment.
  • Providing immediate and effective first aid and emergency care when needed.
  • Quickly recognizing and effectively responding to emergencies within your instructional area.
  • Continuously monitoring assigned areas during lessons.
  • Performing regular safety checks of equipment and teaching space.
  • Proactively eliminating hazardous situations or behaviors.

Operations & Schedule

  • Following established emergency protocols and demonstrating calm and decisive action during incidents.
  • Monitoring and enforcing all safety rules, policies, and procedures with professionalism.
  • Actively participating in regular in-service training.
  • Attend shifts at the following times:
    Group Lessons (weekdays 9am-11am and 4-7pm).
  • Assisting in the cleaning of aquatic facilities and potentially assisting with the checking and balancing of pool chemicals.

Customer Service & Communication

  • Communicating effectively with students, parents, and guardians regarding progress, expectations, and any concerns.
  • Resolving customer concerns, troubleshooting, and resolving problems promptly.
  • Enforcing rules and regulations in a firm yet courteous manner to ensure a safe, high-quality, and pleasant recreation environment for all patrons.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other instructors, lifeguards, staff, members, and guests.
Position Qualifications
  • Age: Must be at least 16 years old.
  • Certifications: Must possess or be able to possess and maintain the following American Red Cross

    Certifications:
    • Water Safety Instructor (WSI)
    • Lifeguard Training (LG)
    • CPR for the Professional Rescuer
  • Training opportunities for these certifications may be available for qualified candidates.
  • Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • The ability to effectively teach swimming skills to diverse age groups and abilities.
    • The ability to make sound and reasonable choices in difficult situations.
    • The capacity to react calmly to stressful situations and help resolve conflicts that may arise.
    • Excellent communication skills across all age groups, including the ability to handle complaints effectively and enforce pool regulations firmly while maintaining strong public relations.
  • Language: Must be proficient in English.
Physical Demands & Additional Requirements
  • Physical Demands: You must be able to perform the physical demands of the job, including standing in water for extended periods, demonstrating strokes, bending, pulling, and lifting up to 80 pounds.
  • Availability: Must be able to meet attendance and punctuality requirements for this position, including working some early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays.
